Ticks and Breed question

Another one here for Frontline Plus!! (For those who ask about frontline ont themselves, I know that Flea/Tick shampoo on a person will dry their skin and hair out really badly!- I did this when I had a dog come in to be groomed that was INFESTED with fleas and ticks. it took 15 minutes for the water to come out clear rather than rusty brown. Thus after I bathed her, I had the "creepy crawlies" )

As far as breeds go, I see Dobie in her! She sure is a cutie though. Maybe a dobie/weim mix??

No, I wasn't really going to put frontline on myself, but if they made something for humans, i'd be the first to try it. Maybe a tick and lice repellant would be more useful though.
As far as what breed or breeds your dog is, she looks kinda a like a Dobe with Weim ears stuck on her. My Dobe is natural eared, my vet has a natural eared Dobe, and there is one in the park here, and their ears don't look like that. I guess their could be variation because they are mostly cropped, so they're not being selected for ears, but the three i've seen look similiar, and not like that. Her nose also looks a bit short and wider than my Dobe's, like it's in between a  Dobe nose and Weim nose. If she were mine, I think i'd call her a Doberaner.

Thank you to everyone for your replies. Tomarrow Im going to the vet and picking up the Frontline. I dont want saber tooth critters on my baby.
Bellarose - I am sorry about the last time I posted and got defensive. I myself doubted it, but I guess I was in denial. I just wanted everything to be perfect and that wasn't apart of the plan. Sounds silly, but it's true. I know it really shouldnt matter and honestly it doesnt now, but at the time it did, because I wanted a Weim, not a mixed. But, now that I have her I wouldnt trade her for any purebreed high standered show Weim in the world.
I call her my pure bred mutt! :) And as far the as breeder is concerned...the weird thing is on his website he has he's got  the pictures of the litter Katriana was born with...all LITTLE puppies, all look exactly the same age, and you can see the marking on her and none of the others. *shrugs* Im thinking that a naughty male dog back in her great great great great grandmom's day snuck into the yard and made pure breed mutts, but maybe she's the first sign of the "accident". *smirks* Ah well, what can ya do.:)

They do make human tick repellant, I know you can find it at an outfitters or a sporting goods store. Other places may carry it as well. Spray it liberally around the cuffs and your sleeves- it helps!

    Isn't it called Deet?!

I also use Frontline for fleas and ticks.  Advantage, *I think* only does fleas.  Not sure though.  I can't remember which is which, but between Interceptor and Sentinel, one does fleas in addition to the heartworm stuff and the other does not.  You wouldn't want to use the HW/flea product with an additional flea/tick product.

we use frontline plus.... correct me if i'm wrong, but frontline isn't a repellant. ticks can/will still get on the dogs, but if you use frontline the ticks will die if they bite the dog. so occassionally we still find a tick crawling on our dogs, but never (or at least we haven't) find them attached.

Yeah, there is the Off stuff, but it smells bad, and must be applied daily. If I could get a once a month tick and lice repellant, that would be awesome.

the "doberman point" color pattern we see in your dog is due to a recessive gene-- both parents must carry it and transmit it to the pup to get that color pattern. So even if a sneaky mating occurred with your pup's mom, it's impossible to get that color pattern unless mom carries the "point" gene, which she shouldn't. Most likely way back when the breed was being created (not that long ago) some "point-patterned" dogs were mixed into the weim lines, and the recessive "point" gene has been carried around by some weims ever since.  So by chance we get two weims who carry a recessive "point" gene, and one of the pups gets two copies, and viola, you get an oddly colored weimeraner. If other than her color she seems very weimeraner-ish, she is probably as purebred as any other weimeraner.

    I too use Frontline Plus.

To help with the situation you can try giving fresh garlic and brewer's yeast in the diet. up to 1/3 of a clove for small dogs and up to a clove per day for large dogs.

Bud's Suds from Ruffwear has worked well for us:

Another wonderful lady told me to prepare a solution of a few drops of essential oil and water in a spray bottle and spray it on the dog before you go hiking. Use citronella, lavender and rosemary for example.

Your dog looks a lot like a black and tan coonhound mix. Very very cute!!!!!
