Does anyone have a good pic of a flea?

It has been so long since I've seen a flea on any of my animals, that I honestly don't even remember exactly what they look like.  The only pictures I can seem to find online are not much help...I need a *real* picture to compare to.  I have been seeing some little bugs in the house, that I have wondered if they might be fleas, but I don't think they are.  But it's kinda important to know for sure!  LOL.  The animals are Frontlined, and I never find anything when I flea comb them.  Also, our AC is broken, so we have had our windows open a lot lately, and although the windows all have screens, I know they are still able to let a lot of tiny bugs in.  So I have no idea what kind of insect I am seeing, but I am really paranoid with the idea that it could be fleas.  I would really like to be able to find a good picture of one.

Go to this site and about half way down is a great picture of a flea.  http://animals.howstuffworks.com/insects/flea.htm

well I'd say they look most like elongated pepper grounds...or elongated poppy seeds. Tiny...and they jump...meaning you seldom see one crawling...but it's there, then GONE.

AussiesRock, thanks for the link, I'll take a look.  :-)

rwbeagles -- thanks!  I definitely don't think they are fleas, then, because I mostly see them crawling and they are easy to pin down.

    Whew! Surprise

I found bugs on Kenya in the fall, even posted about it here, and didn't think they were fleas at first.  They crawled on her, weren't that hard to catch.  But when I started getting them OFF her, they were obviously fleas.  From the top they looked more like lice, but when I got them off I could see those dangly legs underneath and they JUMPED.  I squashed one until it popped and it STILL managed to jump over a foot in the air!  They are very hard to kill and hard to squash b/c they are so small, so I kept a little bowl of bleach water out and dropped them in there whenever I caught one.

An easy way to tell is to look for flea dirt.

Thanks, these are the best flea photos I've seen or been able to find.  FYI, none of the other links work. Wink

I saw the name drugstore beetle in one of the links though, and so I googled it.  The bugs I am seeing look similar, I think?

I still don't know though...I haven't seen these things jump, I don't think.  I think I remember seeing wings (although I haven't seen them fly), and I know I read that fleas don't have wings.  They crawl right onto my fingers pretty readily.  I can kill them by just rubbing them between my fingers, but it's not overly easy, either.

Whatever they are, I keep finding them crawling on top of my bed sheets...ewwwwwww!!!  I only have white sheets on my bed atm, partly because it's easier to see any bugs that might be on them...but I also wonder if the white color might be attracting bugs to them.  I keep re-washing my bedding pretty much every day, although I haven't even been sleeping in my bed.

I usually only see the bugs at night...when it's dark outside, my bedroom window is open (with a screen), and the light is on (I'm a night owl).  My bed is pretty close to the window and, because my room is not that big, it is not too far from the overhead light...so I guess it could also be some kind of random bug that is just attracted to the light and coming in through the window and ending up on my bed...but when I do see them, I see quite a few.  Whatever they are, it is really gross!

Oh, and I have checked for flea dirt and didn't find any.

eek i hate crawlies in my house! all except spiders.

i'd spray out my whole house, take the dogs and move out for a few days...

FWIW, it beats having cockroaches... :(

If you go to http://images.google.com/, you can find pictures of just about anything.  In the case of fleas, it will display some great flea pictures, but there is also the performer named Flea, the flea beetle, a flea circus, a stuffed flea, etc.

Well I have been keeping my light off the past two nights, and I haven't seen a single bug.  So I hope they were just attracted to the light and coming in the window...

What?  Except spiders?  Spiders are the worst, IMO.  Surprise  LOL.

NO! spiders dont come in swarms, the tend to stay in their corners and they eat other creepy crawlies!

plus, according to my mother's culture, they are good luck! :)
