Do you think its okay for dogs to have access to all their toys all the time?

I got my dog Jasper a bunch of new squeaky toys today (he'd ripped the squeaker and stuffing out of all his old ones!) do you think he should have access to all the toys whenever he wants (which is the situation now, they're pretty much all over the floor Surprise    ) or should I rotate the toys so he will keep interest in them and be excited to have a new toy switched every week or so? what do you do?

I have a basket-full available at all times. BUT I have a selection that I keep hidden, to rotate. I also have collections at 'grandmas' house that I'll bring back home, and take toys from home to grandma's.

It's a pretty cute trick to teach them to pick up and put away their toys!

My dogs have only a few toys out at a time. I rotate them weekly so that they don't get bored.  If I were to leave everything out for them all the time, I wouldn't be able to walk through the house without tripping over toys, & stepping on squeaky toys.

We have ours out all the time.  Sally breaks them with enough regularity that the amount never gets out of control and if I put them away I'd just forget where I put them.

Tootsie has access to them all, at all times. Her favorite one is her bad cuz.

Kirby is a toy killer so most of his toys are picked up or they would be destroyed in a matter of hours.  He likes to defuzz, defluff, and tear stuff so if I don't supervise and pull them away after playing with him with them, they will be totaled.  Since I don't have the money to buy new toys every day most of his stuff is stored out of his reach.  Thankfully I have found a few heavy duty ones that he doesn't kill and I'll often leave them out after play.  Still at the end of the day they get tossed in with the rest because I like to keep things tidy.

depends on the dog and what you want to accomplish with the toys- are they training tools? are they intended to be interactive human-dog toys?  If we leave toys out they get destroyed in minutes so all toys are only brought out for training or for human-dog play. Occasionally we'll buy cheap stuffies and hand them over for a shredding party.

We do the same......expecting that these toys are done in no time at all........lol

We have the toys in a basket and in a flower pot outside.......funny thing is, the favorite toys are only super interesting to them when I pick them up and throw them.......wow, instant love affair with the old/new toys.....lol (that is how I train my dogs, the toy that I have they want)

Ben has *most* of his toys, there is a certain pitch of squeaky toy that I just can't bear, and those he only gets to play with when I'm out.  It's a signal that he's going to be home alone, that I toss these toys to him.

Mine have free access to the toys like the kong, tug ropes, balls, plastic/rubber squeakies, nylabones, and marrow bones.  I keep the stuffies and a few special tugs put away.  The stuffies get destroyed if not supervised, and the special tugs are for TUG not chew toys.

Thor has a basket full of toys for him to play with every time he wants and a few hidden: just for special occasions! Like the crab he has just for walks in Christmas and New Years Eve (Here in Venezuela, is like a war of fireworks and it's pretty disturbing, with the crab, Thor forgets everything). We don't mind walking with toys in the floor and I teach Thor a game to put all the toys back in the basket, so he can start all over again. Big Smile

Rascal has free access to most, but a few are reserved for rotating. I like to leave them out for him to give him something appropriate to destroy when he feels the need - it's definitely saved my errant socks, blankets, shoes, and other non-edibles. ;)

As long as there is no resource guarding or aggression over them, I think it's ok. Mine have access to all their toys all the time. Having access to appropriate chew toys has really helped curb Shiner's innapropriate chewing.

Caleb has access to all of his 100+ toys all the time.  My husband thought I should put some away and rotate them, but I don't see why I should since Caleb rotates them himself.

We have a basket with all the toys and they have free access to them. That's about to change, because we have a foster coming tomorrow, so the toys will go up until we are settled and confident they won't cause squabbles.

Super high value things, like RMB or cleaned raw bones only come out with supervision.

I've actually contemplated rotating the toys, because they only play with a select few, so maybe that's what we'll move to when the toys come back.
