    Kids books

What are your kid(s) favourite books?

At the moment, Will likes "Rumble in the Jungle", "That's not my... Tractor" and "Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack".

Popular books in our house cover a range of ages and topics

Teacher from the Black Lagoon (the whole series) by Jared Lee

The Dragon stories by Dav Pilkey are HILARIOUS   http://www.pilkey.com/bookview.php?id=37

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus    and       Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

Magic Tree House stories by Mary Pope Osborne

    My oldest likes:

The Ranger's Apprentice fantasy series by John Flanagan. He likes it so much he tried to convince me to order some from Australia---they were originally published there so they are a few books ahead of the U.S.  He does NOT want to wait for them to be published here.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan---enthusiatically endorsed for preteens, especially ones with ADHD (Percy and all the other half-mortal children of the gods are all ADHDBig Smile  )

Sammy Keyes mysteries by Wendelin VanDraanen. IMHO: SAMMY ROCKS!

Books are my passion, so we have a TON and my kids read all the time. We have more than twice as many bookcases as we do people living here and I have seriously thought about a Kindle to save space and because it would be great to have 100 books with me at all times. Wink

Every night after baths, my mom put all 3 of us in her bed with cups of milk, and read. I remember when my brother still had bottles, and she was reading to us! I couldn't have been much older than 3. I saved her bedspread from that time, because I specifically remember the pattern and I didn't want her to give it away! I have a box of books put away, for my future kids, too.

I *loved* Dr. Suess books. My gram ordered some book delivery service, so every month we got a new Dr. Seuss. I still love me some Dr. Seuss, and I whip out my (ORIGINAL, ANIMATED) dvd of the Grinch around oh, the day after Halloween!

"The Giving Tree" was one of my faves, and so was "The Valentine Cat".

There's one book that my mom read a bunch, and I can't remember the title. Something about a little boy who's mom put bottles over the peach tree blossoms, so the peaches grew in the bottles. I loved that book.

Thinking  back a bit (my "baby" is 31 Smile) both of them adored anything by Dr. Seuss.  I think they are as much fun to read as they are to listen to.

Favourite bits from Rumble in the Jungle:

ELEPHANT:  It's great to be an elephant, All big and fat and round, And wander through the jungle, Just elephing around.

ZEBRA:  I could have been grey like a donkey, Or brown like my cousin the mule, But instead I've got stripes, Which my lady friend likes, As they make me look handsome and cool

    Big Smile  Big Smile

At the moment he doesn't have any Dr Seuss books.... I know I know I am a NEGLECTFUL mother.

Kale is into the Goosebumps books.  He also reads the Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, and Bionicle books.  We're working on Prince Caspien right now together, but its been slow going since for some odd reason he and Kali have been going to bed at the same time and she's not really into books with no pictures.

Kali likes Dr Suess.  So do I.  I could read them to her all day long they're so fun.  She also has two board books called Spotty Dog and I'm not sure what the other one is called, but its about an Elephant that needs to sneeze.  They rhyme too, and I have them memorized so it doesn't matter if she's flipping pages when I'm reading.  Our other favourite is The Pokey Little Puppy.  It was Kale's favourite when he was little too.

My son's favorite book is not what you'd expect at all....he LOVES the magazines from John Deer and such that just have the pictures of Backhoes and Loaders. The kid goes nuts for them and he carries the magazine where ever he goes lol.

Other than that he will sit through any of his bed time story books, but anything with heavy machinery or dogs/ kitties are by far his most preferred.

I don't know anything about CURRENT children's books, but when i was little i loved "Where the wild things are"

I also remember reading one, i think the name was "i'll love you forever"

There was also one about a bull...i think it may have been called fedinand.

OH! and george and martha books!! (they're hippos!)

I was addicted to Bill Peet books as a kid and my mom and I went through all the Little House books as bedtime reading.

I now think the Boynton board books are great (first saw them while babysitting or something like that) - I gave a set to my friend when she was pregnant with her son a few years back.

Two of the Seuss books that get read a lot in our house are My Many Colored Days (about how different days/times people feel different and all the moods are okay) and Oh the Places You Shall Go (how much fun and rewarding and exciting life will be except sometimes things won't be so great). Great messages for adults. My two year olds like Go Dog Go.

For non-Suess, the favorite is Eric Carle's Brown Bear What do You See? The there are a series with gorgeous pictures, I am a Bunny, I am a Puppy, I am a Kitten. And the Boyton books Moo, Baa, LA LA LA and The Going to Bed Book. My son (who has mild cerebral palsy) still loves any of the touch and feel or sparkle books.

For videos, they watch Signing Times. There are a dozen or so in the series.  They teach kids American Sign Language. but to me more importantly, show kids with varying abilities (disabilities), kids of different ethnicities, siblings getting along, and have just totally awesome messages and catchy songs. My favorite song teaches the signs for Please, Share, Your Turn, My TUrn, and My Turn. No idea why a mother of toddler twins would like that song Wink

Agnes, flying to the RR Rodeo in a day and a half Party!!!

Gracie (Rhodesian Ridge(less)back, 17), Mouse (RR, 1998-2008), Sam (RR ~1988-2004)

My brother was like this as a baby. We're 13 years apart, I did ALOT of babysitting, and I remember he loved car/truck magazines, and he loved my Dads fishing magazines.

A couple of years ago I got my sisters little granddaughter a book she really loved.  It was called "Walter the Farting Dog" and you could get the toy dog with it (about the size of a pet store stuffy) - when you squeezed him he made the funniest farting sound.  It had the kids in stitches.

    BIONICLE!!!!!

I AM TOA GALI---okay, just kinda like her LOL.

My kids are very into Bionicle and the five year old has started carrying around the Lego catalogs and Bionicle comics and just "reading" and "re-reading" them. We have one graphic novels and a ton of books---another graphic novel comes out in a month or two and there is a new comic series coming out too.

Did you know you get the Bionicle comics free when you sign up for the free lego club???
