Home Run Derby last night

    Home Run Derby last night

I Tivo'd this since the kids had stuff to do. I am so glad I did! I am a quiet Rangers fan. Horrible as they've been it's best to be quiet about it LOL. But this year...it's been so fun to watch them play and bond as a team. They are a TIGHT team...from doing slip n slide antics on a rain soaked tarp...to the special "foam finger" they haul around to every game...they're a "team".

Last night Josh Hamilton did something I could not even fathom was possible. It was awesome....anyone who loves baseball...couldn't help but be impressed. The story of Hamilton is well told and known here in Texas...we were all suspicious about him when he first showed up. I mean a CRACK addict? Many jokes were made even some by me...but he's shut me up and he's won me over and he and Bradley and Kinsler and Young and Murphy and everyone....they're playing some smokin hot baseball right now.

Here's a great write up on what went down last night...enjoy!

Excuse my "ignorance" but I heard them talking about this on the radio this AM. What is the "home run derby"? Just who can bat the most home runs?

    I confused. Embarrassed

yup it's like the "Fastest Skater" type event at the NHL All Star game...or the "Slam Dunk" event at the NBA all star game. It's a fun, specialized event designed to let players show off a bit in front of the fans. Usually there's some money for charity involved and the winner gets a trophy.

In the MLB one there are rounds and you have to be in the top xyz scores to get to the next round. It was sort of funny because even tho Josh hit THIRTY ONE (the previous record for one round was 25 and he hit 28...everyone else last night hit like, 8) he DIDN'T win the whole thing...because the winner hit 5 in the last round and he only hit 3 ( I imagine he was tired after hitting you know...28 earlier lol).

The winner actually sounded sorry he won hehe...he knows he's just a footnote at this point. 31 home runs...and not little tiny home runs....FIVE HUNDRED FOOT plus home runs, in Yankee Stadium, not a cakewalk park...was the real story there. Wink

I've always been a Rangers fan.  My parents and my best friend's parents would always cart us to games when we were little (Cowboys too!) and it just never left me.  Ex-boyfriend and I went to three games this year and it was a lot of fun.  I'm proud of their success and Hammy, well, he's the jolt we've been needing for quite a while.  That's certainly not to knock Bradley, Kinsler, Young or Murphy as they are a TEAM but Hammy was the cherry on top.

we used to live within walking distance of the Ballpark so went more often then. This year we've yet to get to a game which I am not happy about...but we'll head out after the break no doubt. Try to get to the dog day this year too...not sure whether to bring Ellie for convenience or Cleo for shock value LOL.

Ohhh, dog day!  Joey and I must find a friend to go with.

(A different ex and I lived over off Roosevelt - right across the street from Country Day School - and we would bike up to the Ballpark and sometimes Six Flags.  That was a very convenient place to live!)

small world...Lily did 3 years in that place! great Montessori program but I hear it went Charter. I probably walked past your place 3 times a week!

Gina, you should bring Cleo, because then I bet I can find you and meet her. I'm planning to take Kaylee. :P

My only concern with her would be the heat. She really does wilt in it...and a 3 hour baseball game might be too much for her. But if I can find some kind of cooling device,...I might bring her Smile

I totally see a DFW I-dog meet up next month!  That would be sweet!

The Dog Day game is August 17th. My son's 5th bDay is the 13th so potential problem but if we do something Saturday instead might be fine...I'll put something in Events.
