    Okay so.....

I love my dogs dearly, BUT, Abbie is driving me crazy!!! We've been having daily thunderstorms for about a week now and she is all over me. I injured my leg Saturday night and have been home since then and I think she would literally crawl up my ass if she could! She has always been an anxious dog, but she really gets worked up when we have storms. Everything I've read says not to coddle them when they do this, but if I don't let her crawl all over me she goes under my daughter's bed and won't come out for hours, sometimes not until the next day. What do I do???? I feel so bad for her! I gave her a Benadryl the other night thinking it would knock her out a little, but it didn't........ Rescue Remedy does nothing....... Should I let her go under the bed or shut the door??? It's getting ready to storm again and she's working herself up............. HELP!

they have a 'doggy prozac' out that works really well, it's call Reconcile - only avalible through your vet. One of my coworkers uses it on her SA dog.

A DAP plug in may help has well. RR does not work for every dog. Some dogs do better if you put them in the bathtub.... don't ask why - I have no clue. I've dealt with a lot of thunder-phobic dogs, and it's not easy!

    This link explains it;   http://www.petexpertise.com/dog-calming/dog-appeasing-pheromone-dap-plug-in.html?sef_rewrite=1

Jessie is as afraid of fireworks as your dog is of thunder, and Valerian helped tremendously. It's an herb that I learned about from Callie. It's important to get a good brand. I give her the Solaray brand; you can find it at health stores. For Jessie, I mixed some in her evening meals so she wouldn't be upset when the neighbors lit fireworks. Poor girl; I hope you find something that works so both of you can have some peace.

I was just reading this thread...lots of good ideas.  Check it out if you haven't already:  http://forum.dog.com/forums/t/82590.aspx

Valerian can be 'iffy' with pups - it works better on a dog who is at least a year old.

Hylands Calms or Calms Forte -- good stuff but takes almost an hour to work.

tinctures that may help (aside from Valerian) -- passionflower, St. Johns Wort, Oat Seed -- alcohol free is often easier to give because it's sweet.

Sunshine girl have you ever had "a storm party"??  Even on an older dog it can work well -- I've typed it out before but if you've never seen it I'll do it again.

Callie ~ I haven't seen the "storm party" info, but am open to any suggestions. She just gets so nutty. And what if I'm not home when it storms??? I feel so bad for her.......
