Albright, Madeleine - first female U.S. Secretary of State
    Anthony, Susan B. -
the "Napoleon of the Women's Rights Movement"
Barton, Clara - founded the Red Cross
Blackwell, Elizabeth - the first woman to earn a medical degree in the United States
Earhart, Amelia - first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic
Goldman, Emma - an ardent proponent of birth control
O'Connor, Sandra Day - first woman on the Supreme Court
    Sanger, Margaret -
a leading proponent of birth control in America
Stanton, Elizabeth Cady - worked closely with Susan B. Anthony on women's rights and suffrage

I saw "Clara Barton" and thot 'HEY ELIZABETH BLACWELL -1st WOMAN DOCTOR" and then saw you beat me to it!!  One of my teenaged favorites.

"proponent of birth control" -- a badly bred pug?  boy could I start some arguments with that!!  *grin*

I've added all of them and I like Penny too.

It's funny -- will be the SECOND dog I've adopted on July 4th!  I got Old Mike tha Dog on July 4th.  god caught in traffic and took me 2 hours to ge him  home.  This will take 3 DAYS ... the way my record is going i don't think I'll plan this one again LOL

Yay! She'll be patriotic!  Any chance we can get pictures?  Hmm...you're getting her over Independence Day weekend....I wonder if there are patriotic names that would suit her?  Is there such a thing as a patriotic name?

How about Liberty? Or Libby for short.

^ ^ ^ Like that one.  Also Cinderalla (Cindy) cos it still sounds a bit like Indy.  I was thinking of another suggestion (Pollyanna) and now I keep thinking Indy-Anna (but yeah I recently watched the latest Indiana Jones film so that would explain it).  I am so rubbish at names but they are so fun.  And I am SO excited about this lil girl dog.  I can't wait for her to "come home" Big Smile

On my list folks -- I can see it now -- this will be a big topic of conversation on our way back -- little does this little gal know her 'behavior' in a motel room will shape her DESTINY!! LOL

"Destiny" would be another great name!!  LOL

    • Gold Top Dog

Libby is another "L" word -- but I like it and will add it to the list.

We had a Pollyanna -- it would be my number one choice had I not already used it for my precious little one (she was the handicapped dog we took 4 years ago -- an awesome little gal, but she had been horrifically abused.  her abuser broke her back with a broom and one of her injuries 'inside' had a blood clot and she simply died in our arms one night from a stroke - we only had her 3 months).

Indi-anna would sound like the State (Indiana).

    But all GREAT suggestions!!

Pics -- oh my yes!!  I may try to send one via my cell phone to somebuddy if they then want to post it over the weekend.  Hopefully I'll have Davids OQO with me to send something.

Someone asked her "size" -- I have her measurements -- 11" neck, 14" neck to bottom, 17" withers to floor and 19" chest.  So I didn't wind up with one 'size' but rather a couple were 6-9 months and a couple were 3-6 -- I just measured them.

But yeah -- I'd LOVE old ratty onzies for her at home.  This girl has a big contact allergy -- and one of the best things I can do for her at least now is to keep her covered.  She WILL grow - not a ton but she's only 4 1/2 months or so.

    Thanks!

Whew! That's a lot of Pug!!!

    sharismom

For now she can be the Pug Pup Formerly Known as Lulu!  Do you think she'll answer to that? Geeked

No, but if she chooses a glyph as her name we are ALL in trubble!! *grin*

And as Jennie_cd says " Whew! That's a lot of Pug!!!"

Actually Rita says she's small for a pug -- only 13 pounds.  But she looks leggy to me.  But then she's nekkid of hair so I'm not surprised.

17" at the withers is SMALL for a pug?? According to dogbreedinfo.com (which, admittedly, is not the most reliable source), females are supposed to be 10-12". 17" is HUGE. Jaz, a 75 pound pit bull, is only like 19 1/2".

    • Gold Top Dog

17" is a big puppy.... Emma is only 13 1/2", and she's around the size of most pet quality, adult Pugs. Show Pugs are smaller. That's measuring straight up and down, not against the body, but still.... she's only 4 months old!

She'll be "big" either way, anyhow, LOL. Pugs are some BIG STINKIN dogs, in iiiittttyyyy biiiiittttyy bodies.

    • Gold Top Dog

Tonight I'll post the pic of the baby with a "normal" pug -- she's skinny -- but leggy I think.  She's not 'huge' - she's only 13 pounds (according to the vet).

I think it's 13" -- if I typed 17 I screwed up.  Sorry.  (yeah cos I was measuring 26" for wrist to wrist measurements).

No illusions she's well bred -- and I'm not at all sure how well they 'measured' her.

    • Gold Top Dog

"Normal" pug (male tho, I *thinki*) and "The Pug Formerly Known as Lulu"

    *grin*

Well, it could be Liberty, Bertie for short! Big Smile  Awww, isn't that cute?

    • Gold Top Dog

That face kills me. She is just. So. Cute.

She looks soooo great, aside from the nakies. Of course, at this house, we like the nakiesWink We know "The Pug formerly known as Lulu" isn't supposed to be nakie, though, so we want her to get better, FAST, at Aunt Callie's house. Maybe, then, she can have playtime with the REAL nakie dog!

Ditto. I'm not good at suggesting names but one of my fav's is Emma. If you're going to name her after a famous woman, what about Amelia; kind of pretty.

    • Gold Top Dog

I"m adding all of them!!  I do like Amelia (Amy fur short) & Liberty (altho Libby not Bertie -- "Bert" is my mother's nickname and as much as I'd love to tick her off, it wouldn't be wise (she and my Dad have already registered MASS displeasure at what we're doing).

BTW -- this is today's pic.  Tomorrow I should get HER scent box so I can see what the Clan thinks of that!!

Is this Ms. Individual or what??  *grin* (Anybuddy remember Nilsson's "Me & My Arrow" from the 70's?  I've had "Me & my Blue Bone" stuck in my head for hours!!)

I love that little "flat top" she's got going on til the rest grows in

Oh Poo...I've been avoiding this thread for the past 2 days, not because I really didn't want to read it, but because I've been so busy and then I come back to a 6 page thread, it seemed like alot of reading.  I'm glad I sucked it up tonight though.  I haven't seen the other thread, but I think I'll go looking for it tomorrow.

Callie, once again, my hat is off to you.  You and David are wonderful people.  The Pug Formerly Known as Lulu has found her Angels for sure.  I have a feeling that your reception at the Bridge(in the far far away future of course) will go down in the books!

Now, do you suppose your socky boots would work for sled dogs?  You have to buy them in 4's so when a dog blows one of them on a run....well it gets costly.
