Every 179 years, Neptune and Saturn are in the same quadrant of the solar system. The combined gravitational effect causes the Sun to precess in its orbit (the Sun follows a small orbit, which contributes to heating and cooling) and pull away from Earth slightly, creating a cool down, usually known as a little ice age. It's been 179 years since the last one. Highest temperature recorded in North Carolina in August, back then, was 40 F.
Every 100,000 years is a major ice age, creating glaciation as far south as the norther tier states of the US. The last one was 100,000 years ago. There are other smaller cycles and those are due, too.
There are scientists (not politicians) who's job it is to study ice sheets and glaciers. Over 90 percent of the worlds glaciers and ice sheets are growing. While some borders have receded temporarily, they are growing thicker. Antartica (in spite of the piece of ice shelf that broke off over open water) is growing a thicker ice sheet. Inches to feet thicker each year.
North Texas, first week of March 2008, we had two snow blizzards in a week, leaving 6 to 8 inches each time. I have never seen that here and I have been in Texas since October 1974.
According to all graphs shown, including Al Gore's own "hockey stick" graph, temperature increases, then CO2 increases, not the other way around, as he would have you believe. CO2 is not a greenhouse gas, water vapor is.
Brazil is nearly independent of oil by using ethanol. They have done so by cutting down chunks of the Amazon. They are getting rid of the CO2 absorbing foliage because it takes so many acres of flat, dry land to grow corn. In addition, ethanol burns hotter than regular gas and destroys the seals and gaskets we now use. So, this would raise temperatures produced by our motors, provided they last long enough. Also, ethanol has a lower power to payload ratio. And it still produces hydrocarbons.
Back in the 70's, when everyone drove huge cars with regular carbeurators, we had a cool down and the same scientists who are now panicking at global warming were panicking over global cooling, blaming it on CFCs.
Most climate data stations were built at least 30 years ago in rural areas. The stations have remained while cities were built around them. It is not uncommon to see a station surrounded by white concrete with a fence that blocks off the wind. Part of the "increase" in temperature is from faulty readings because of the reflective surfaces around the stations.
That being said, the most accurate measurement shows that the Earth has warmed in 50 years. It is .45 C warmer than it was 50 years ago.
There's some interesting facts to chew on.
