Should I?

    Should I?

I have an acreage and I have space for 11 dogs. But I have 5. I really want to start thinking about a 6th puppy then waiting like 5 years before getting more.

    The shelter has-

Bob- a 6yr old lab mix. He loves people.

Ginger- a 5 and a 1/2 month old Great Pyreenees/Saint Bernard. She is sweet and loves to give kisses.

Jasper & John- 6 week old lab mixes. I'm only looking to add one dog but i dont know.

Duke- a 16 week ol Jack Russell. I would change his name to Juke because he loves to run. He doesn't like girls under the age of 10 though.

Kona- a 4yr old lab mix. But my concern is she likes some dogs but hates others.

Buddy- a 1 yr old German Short hair Pointer. He is trained and get along with other dogs. His name would be changed to Guddy.

I'm unsure what your question is?

If you have the time, space and resources for another, then by all means yes.  Choose whichever will make the most seamless transition into your pack.  :)

Get them all. Haha. Just kidding.  Take your dogs over there and see which one goes good with them.

if all dogs were in agreement I'd take the 6 year old lab - older they are harder it is for them to find a home. the pups would find homes quickly

I agree with marynh - older dogs have a harder time finding a home.  If they got along okay, I'd go for the 6 year old lab.  Pups always seem to find homes easier.

I am takin the pups for a meet n greet tommorow with Ginger, Jasper n John, and Duke.

If I dont find my perfect puppy then I will set up another meet n greet with Bob, Kona, and Buddy.

Oh yeah, I might have to cancel Kona off of my meet n greet list. She doesn't like some dogs so I don't wanna fight.

Just curious how you came up with the figure 11?

In addition, space is not the only thhing you need to own dogs.  Time you need in abundance, especially for puppies.  So if I were you I would also go with an older dog (example, 6 yrs) who has very little chance of finding a forever home.  And I would do that in a year or two, when my current pup(s) were more trained and had plenty of time to bond, settle down and mature.... The only reason I say this is cos you alreasy have at least one very recet addition to your pack.  I would leave them as they are for a bit before I add the upheaval of another addition.

11? Geeze I have a farm and I still have my hands full with only three dogs! It must be time consuming to train all of your current dogs, even in just basic obedience. Wowza. If I get anymore dogs then Im going to have to start a sled dog team. lol

You are right. I'll get another when Possum is two years old. Thank- You~!!!!

Sounds like puppy/dog fever to me.  Big Smile

Take two obedience sessions and call in the morning if you're not feeling better...
