Prejudice Against Muslims? Who would have thunk it

    • Gold Top Dog

Ok, if I am reading this rgiht, Obama's aids kicked out some muslim ladies because they were wearing head dresses and obviously muslim and someone thought that might hurt his campaign.

Some are saying it is because the republicans would make such a big deal about it if he had them in the picture.  I disagree.  The strong republicans are going to vote GOP no matter what Obama does.  It is the mushy middle that Obama has to convince.   What does that say about our country?  The middle, a place where most people are, will be swayed to vote GOP or Dem depending on two ladies wearing headdresses?  Oy vey!!  Well, it goes to show, the best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.

Personally, I could give a rats tush about weather he is muslim, greek, jew, prodistent, or gay for that matter.  All that matters is his shoe size.  We NEED someone with at least a 17 shoe size so that when he gets out of office the next person will have some big shoes to fill.

Ok, not really.  That would be almost as absurd as voting for or against someone based on the color of their epidermis.  Obama is going to crash the already hurting economy if he gets ellected.  I think McCain should be focusing on that.  However, I won't be voting for him either for other reasons unless he chooses a good VP, so I am out of luck.

For the record, Rush and the rest of them HATE McCain. I would have loved to hear what they said when it started looking like McCain would get the nomination, but I don't listen to talk shows.  (Brother did for a while)

Don't know what's sadder, the fact they feel the need to pick people to look pretty for the photographers, or the fact us, the voting public, is so easily swayed by such a tactic in the first place.

There's the original topic, again. It was volunteers in Obama's campaign that made the decision to downplay the ethnicity or religion of various supporters to be photographed as part of the humanity backdrop. We could debate that they did so out of image pressure they would fear from republicans. But I find many conservatives to be not so conservative. Many of them would like to tell you who you can marry, what you must do with your body, what religion you may worship, all antithetical to the spirit and letter of the Constitution. "All men are created equal" (men being a plural use to denote members of the human species). The state shall establish no religion (by inference, they can also not tell us what we may not worship, or that even we must worship. Freedom of religion can also be freedom from religion.).  I'm so conservative that I want the government out of my wallet, bedroom, body, and mind. Gays should be allowed to marry, serve in the armed forces, have children, etc. To that end, the government should not tell me what kind of relations I can have with my spouse, even though we are of opposite genders. The sodomy laws are unconstitutional. Women should decide what happens to their body. People should be able to worship Jahweh, Allah, or Astarte, as they see fit. Or don't see fit. To me, that's the ultimate in conservative thought.

And when I say we should quit buying from OPEC and drill our own oil, that is not out of identification with republicans. That is out of an undertanding (limited) of politics, finance, and what is best for our own country.

    But I digress.

Obama is no worse or better than any other politician. Which is in his favor. He is not the greatest hope of mankind, nor is he the Antichrist. He's just a human willing to take on the toughest job in the world. Clinton is not the answer to all, either. She is just a woman willing to take on the toughest job in the world. And this will show that ideas of suitability based on color, gender, or ethnicity are so low and stupid that even my dog, who is not capable of cognitive thought (according to some), is smarter than that.

But, as our primary choices are an african-american and a woman, it does show that the political landscape is changing for the better, I think. And it is only pundits and various "media" outlets that are making a big deal out of his name, color, whathaveyou, which completely obfuscates the issues.

I'd probably have to get a haircut. It's been getting shaggy. It's at the crappy stage (about collar length) where I either need to tough it through and grow it long again, or cut if off short and be done with it.

Aside from that concession to image, I am old enough, I am a natural born citizen (born 3-19-64 at Whitehead Memorial Hopsital, Los Angeles, California) and I have no arrests or criminal record. My last speeding ticket was in 2001.

But I don't have the money, a practical concern these days. Anyone over the age of 35 and a natural born citizen may run for President. However, I might incur the same description as Bush, in that I would do what I see as necessary (whether he is effective or not, right or not, is beside the point) regardless of what the polls say. Because I am not a politician. I consistently stink at politics. I also realize that in the position of command, whether that be a crew foreman or president of the United States, I would have to do things I don't particularly like because they are necessary.

In my photo op, you would find me, a couple of bikers, some aging hippies, a few drag queens ala "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", complete with ABBA soundtrack, a few rednecks, and a major stockholder and chairman of the board in a few banks in Dallas who wears suits off the rack and drove an old Chevrolet Cavalier. And Ray Wylie Hubbard, most noted for writing the song "Redneck Mothers" made famous by Jerry Jeff Walker.

In fact, here's a vid of Hubbard performing his biggest song. He's the one on the right with the bandanna on his head. This song should be at my innaugural party.

Well you have convinced me Ron

     You have my vote

    I agree ! Yes

I honestly don't think any politician is better than any other. That may be a pessimistic view for someone with so few years under their belt, but I'm utterly sick and tired of politics. I have yet to see one politician who actually has the public's interests at heart. I have a feeling that once you've become entrenched in the business so long, you lose sight of that. It's a dog-eat-dog (no pun intended) sphere and the public comes out losing.
