Prejudice Against Muslims? Who would have thunk it

The candidate of change, the party of the politically correct behaving in such a fashion. I wonder how big this story would have been had it been McCain’s party and his rally? Some how or another I do not think McCain or his campaign would be able to pull this off without it being all over the news.

It's a shame his middle name has been spun into fodder by the Rep's and his people even find it necessary act in such a fashion as a result. More than enough shame in about every aspect of this race to go around.

It's a shame Rachel Ray caught flack for wearing a scarf that "looked Muslim"

It is a shame some of what I have heard said about Muslims on this forum...

Like I said..plenty of shame to go around.

I really don't think you can hold a candidate of either party responsible for every dumba$$ thing someone working on the campaign does or says.

Without even going to this site...I will answer it the very same way I did a Good Friend of over 20 years..... Thank you for the contribution in YOUR name to this canidate,,,,,,, freaks her and her hubby out but darn it all it is the ONLY way to get her to stop sending me all of the Ignorant Republican crap.    I am not saying Republicans are crap just that like EVERYTHING in the Universe .....every side , every item has a significant side and a total crap side. THIS is Crap.

While She and her hubby are die hard Republicans , my hubby and I are born and bred Democrats....... No apologies on either side wanted or NEEDED.    We have our own beliefs.  They have no kids and more money than God but the thought of local property taxes going up even 1/2  a mil Freaks them out....... Bob and I campaign for it... Darn it the kids can't even have a supply of Toilette paper and paper towels on hand unless Parents and Grandparents step up and send it in ..............   I love the rural yet artsy crafsy look of our township , but Yes I would trade it in a heart beat to know the kids did not have to hope 80 % of enrollees would have antiseptic hand gel and uniforms.............

The Hubs and I put 3 kids in school  last year ......we bought supplies ( 97.00 each) plus our uniforms.... but we bought for 9 kids not the 3. NOT because WE are rich ( Heck no) BUt because  but because others are poor.

This whole Muslim herring going on..... Hell I do Not care if the next leader believes in Starbucks................. All I want is someone who understands and believes in OUR  country, This POWERFUL country , there are areas where children and school taxes amount for Less than the $$ bid for flowers for the median on the highway.

As an Adoring G'ma raising a Gorgeous Bi Racial Grandson with out a father to Never be in the picture..... Geeee who do I  think will understand and care enough???????     McCain will not be the Blight the Bushes were ..... and should Obama take it???? We would not Be upset....Instead WE and about 1/2 a million other grandparents raising bi racial Grandkids will say   HEY>>>>>>>> NO EXCUSE STEP IT UP>>>> LOOK AT THE PRESIDENT!!!!!

Before anyone thinks this is gratuitous.......    try to find inexpensive   as in non custom made ,  book that simply acknowledge children of clolor LET alone Kids with mixed aparents who were not married..... They still have sheets in my corner of the world IF you are not careful and protected.....In a Perfect world all of us would be voting via Ozzie and Harriet    right??? Life was simple and courteous........... It was also apparently color bllind as I can not remember EVER seeing  a Black Teen in the series...............

My Perfect Grandson has a blonde haired blue eyed half sister and 3 cousins in our home...(they all have the same parents ;) One is a redhead, one a sandy blonde with waist legnth hair and the last a little un with gorgeous gyspy black curls..... only one  in the 5 has different colored eyes and she is the only one who feels "different"   If you love with your whole heart and back your heart  you should be able to bet your  last nickle the worst that should EVER happen to a kid is they are the only one on 5 to have different colored eyes.............

You can see my amazing grands on my profile.  Till them. Haters need not respond to ME............ been there done that and know how IGNORANT you are................

Big old hugs And both prayers and Plans for the FUTURE

Ooohh, so it's the republicans fault that his campaign volunteers actively discriminated against Muslims?   Riiighhhhhtttt.......

    Nothing like passin' the buck.....

    • Gold Top Dog

OK, when I was an intern I did events coordination and had to pull together a gazillion volunteers for one particular event.  Does that mean I was responsible for the political and religious beliefs of ever single one of my volunteers?  I don't even remember half their names.  Come on!

This is of course not the policy of the campaign. It is offensive and counter to Obama’s commitment to bring Americans together and simply not the kind of campaign we run. We sincerely apologize for the behavior of these volunteers.

There, that's enough for me.  Two people acting on their own against campaign policy.  I do not see how Obama and the campaign even factor in here...

Aw c'mon... with all the "B. Hussein" stuff and people implying he's not only Muslim but also a terrorist (or is he a terrorist because he's Muslim? or vice versa? the spin gets soooo confusing), can you really blame them? Can you imagine the furor?

(Personally, I'd bet that the Hillary! campaign was actually responsible for more of the Obama slander than even the Republican Party, but anyways...)

My senior year in college there was a huge uproar because the graphic on our senior class T-shirts portrayed only 3 white people. The Minority Coalition was *pissed* that the image, which was processed from a photo that had won some competition or something for depicting campus life, was so "discriminatory." These same people would no doubt have been angry if the faces had been altered to appear ethnically different.

At a fairly ethnically segregated school (sigh), I ran around with a half-asian boyfriend, puerto rican best friend, and a good chinese friend of ours. You would not *believe* the number of times we were asked to pose for photo ops... people of different ethnic backgrounds mingling?! Quick!! Get it on camera - let's put it in the calendar!!!! lol...

Obviously, politics is a game, and again obviously, everyone is playing. I'm convinced that Hillary(!) lost the dem nomination because of image problems. I'm sure Obama (and his volunteers/supporters/etc.) is doing his darndest to avoid the same downfall!

There's a difference between changing the way the game is played and changing the game itself. Obama never promised to change everything, rofl! And only time will tell if he can actually change anything, anyways.

I understand why the staffers did this and I am not even upset that it was done, and I do not think that the purpose of it was to discriminate.

I guess what bugs me is that the media would never let Mccain or any Republican get away with such tactics and I think the general public would be far more upset at this being done by a republican than they ever would a democrat. When it is the dem party then the explanations for the behaviour make sense.

Exactly.  And I for one lay most of the blame squarely with the Republican party.  They have become the party of rumor-mongering, hate and innuendo.  It's certainly not a recent development, but it sure has intensified in the past few years.  And I'm guessing we ain't seen 'nuthin like we'll see in the next few months.  Too bad they apparently don't realize how many non-partisans (like me) that their tactics are completely turning off.

Shame on Obama's people for giving in to them.  But much more shame on the Republicans, and the millions of uninformed Americans who believe in and perpetuate the "spin", for making them feel like they had to do it.

Well, I don't think the media lets anyone get away with anything, lol!  But I don't base my opinions of the candidates on media hype and spin.  I've read the articles nitpicking the McCain campaign as well and form my opinions using the same logic and common sense I would when reading any article.  I can only speak for myself but I pick my candidates based on the individual and their platforms, not the party.  I am not a member of either party and have voted both ways in the past, both split tickets and straight tickets.  Both parties annoy the crap out of me!

Um....? This is a quote from the exact same article you linked to start this thread:

On the Republican side, a Hispanic New Hampshire Democrat, Roberto Fuentes, told Politico that he was recently asked, and declined, to contribute to the “diversity” of the crowd behind Sen. John McCain at a Nashua event.

How is that not only using the same tactics, but also "getting away with" them, as the event garnered not a full article but a couple of nondescript sentences?

Google "Obama muslims rally" and you will get many pages of news stories about this "event."

Google "McCain hispanics rally" and you get... no mention whatsoever of the incident with McCain. But lots of "Hispanic outreach" sites for his campaign.

    ....

the only negativity i have seen publicly directed at obama came from hillary's campaign. mccain's people have been very quiet these last few months.

This was all over the news this morning on the radio and made the front cover of the major newspapers.  The thing is, there was a rally earlier in the day in Dearborn, MI (about 20 miles from me).  I believe this city has the largest Muslim population outside of the middle east.  All of the street signs and store signs are in arabic.  It would only make sense that muslim woman would be in the crowd etc.  If Osama was trying to avoid the muslim people, etc. etc. then why would he go there for a rally...doesn't make sense.  We all know why they didn't want them in the picture, because someone would blow it out of proportion...which they did anyway.

Personally, I am sick of the media blowing stupid things out of proportion and burying important things in the back because they don't boost ratings.  This is whole point of the radio broadcast this morning...why the media blows these things out of proportion.

For the record, my beliefs are Republican, but I think that all of this political stuff is all media manipulation...on all sides.  You will never learn anything pertinent about either candidate from the main stream media.  You have to personally dig into their beliefs and issues to find out what they are about.  Unfortunately there is a large population of Americans who don't bother to do that.  All they allow themselves to think about is what the media spoon feeds them...it's easier that way.

It's sad really that a photograph or lack of one could make people change their minds about who they want to run one of the most powerful countries in the world...very very sad.

Exactly. Obviously it had nothing to do with "prejudice against Muslims", it was about protecting their candidate from the right wing propaganda machine that has been trying their darnedest to convince everyone that Obama is a Muslim. If they can even inject a tiny bit of doubt in someone's mind about his religious beliefs and loyalty to this country (they've also been painting him as anti-American), they've won.

This is just the beginning, and it will only get uglier. Maybe it was ill-advised for Obama's campaign staff to do what they did, but I can certainly understand why they thought they needed to. It's really no different than McCain, a white man, trying to recruit people of different ethnic backrounds to appear near him on camera. Obama needs to distance himself from the assertion that he's a Muslim, McCain needs to prove that the Republican party cares about people of color.
