How do I begin to organize a possible transfer? (Callie)

    Oh, that poor BABY!

Callie, if she ends up over this way, and the housetraining is an issue, I have a friend who just might take her. She's dealt with stuff like this before, and is more than capable. She's been talking about getting a little Pug to be her Chihuahua's friend for a while...

I have heard back from the person with the plane 9this being a private plane I think that flying could be possible even tho the pup is so very ill)....she hasn't been flying since Jan BUT she may know someone who can help...I will keep you posted.

Would depend on the cost of that -- but I'll email you my contact info to disburse as you see fit.

I emailed you Callie - should she not fly I can shoot up I-95 to North FL/South GA.

Soon as I know more tomorrow I'll post -- there are still some questions we have to have answers to (house-training is a *biggie* because I can't stop work for a few weeks).  I also don't know when this vet will turn loose of her.

It's my understanding from Rita she's playing with toys, eating, and loving any and all attention.  Rita's biggest concern when she found out how horrific this is was HOW was her mental state.

The people who had her actually put her FOR SALE on Craigslist last month -- and only when they couldn't *sell* her in this shape did they consent to 'give' her to this pug rescue.

Even if we can't take her -- I know I can help whoever DOES foster her because I'm pretty sure I can tell a bunch of things that are going on.  The way her chest looks -- the belly is simliar.  But that rash -- I'm sure it's not just staph ... that's contact allergy.  St. Augustine sod - I'd bet half of next week's pay on it.

If there's anyone who can get her in shape it's you!  Isn't it funny how they just end up in our lives when we think we don't have room for a project, then down the road you can't imagine life without 'em?

Blessings and safe travel to this girl and His wisdom to you as you work with her and make decisions about her ultimate placement.

Oh that poor thing.  I'm hoping with all my heart that they can get her to you.  The fact that she's enjoying being loved on sounds promising for her mental state.  I've got my fingers crossed and am praying this can work out for you both.

Haven't heard back yet Callie...but I did notice some YahooGroups on rescue transports...volunteer drivers etc...have you checked into joining one of those to ask? That route is really pretty direct once you leave Texas...I bet it's used often.

Will look into it -- my concern is that this girl is so sick.  Her skin is one big open wound, so she'll need incredible care -- this isn't a dog you'll be able to just plop down at a roadside rest area and let her roll in the grass.  And dang it .. my hands are so tied til I hear back from her.

That's why I thought of flying. *If* they'd allow her to fly, it seems like it'd be much safer for her. I bet i-dog would help her out with the ticket, too. I can't wait to hear what the vet says.... Hopefully, she's well enough to be moved. Poor kid.

I just talked to Rita ... they're probably going to let her out of the clinic tomorrow.  The swelling has gone down in her face considerably and Rita actually saw her this afternoon, and you can actually SEE her eyes and they are bright and clear.

they've documented that they've taken her out 3 times a day -- but she can't get a feel on how housetrained she is.  But the foster Mom will be able to figure that in just a couple of days I hope.  (fwiw - it's not that I don't want to housetrain a dog -- but her skin is so open and sore that it would be dangerous to her to be crated if she had messed in there -- I don't want to jeopardize her health that way and altho I could take a lunch break for a few weeks, it's not something I could do long term)

The bad news is that they can't prove ANY vaccines, and of course in order to fly she'd have to have vax.  But, transport isn't going to be easy either because she's so immune-compromised.  However, at least with American Airlines they won't require major health certification ... just "up to date" on shots.  Now ... how long after the shots before she can fly is another question.

She hasn't gotten any answers yet from the vet on the meds she's on (Rimadyl for pain and I know the one antibiotic but no word on the amounts of ivermectin) nor about whether a culture was done on the ears.

Again, Rita was thrilled at how happy and bright she seemed -- she is eating good and generally is happy and playful which is awesome given how sick she is.

She has to be UTD for interstate transfer, but a vet's declaration that she is too ill for vaccination would meet that requirement.  The airlines are kind of slack about that paperwork anyway - you show them a paper with the vet's addrss on it and they assume that's good.

GGlad to hear she is improving!

Emma flew Delta, with me, in cabin. I showed NO records of anything. It worked out, fine. Now, she did have to come in and out of her bag a few times, but that was easily managed. For this puppy, something from the vet that says she isn't "contagious" or something like that might be helpful.

Oh gosh, all this waiting.  I'm just on pins and needles for this little girl.  I'm so happy to hear that she's happy and wants to play.  That is just awesome.

Healing thoughts for a smooth recovery and easy transport!!!

When I've flown with Rascal I also have never once been asked for my vet documents. It might be different if the dog is noticeably in poor health, but between a vet's declaration and keeping the dog out of sight (I highly recommend the blanket-over-the-carrier routine), you'd probably get by okay. It wouldn't hurt to talk to their airline, of course, but do so without giving names until they're ready to be really cooperative... even if they say it's impossible, it might be fine.
