How do I begin to organize a possible transfer? (Callie)

Mods, please move this if there's somewhere better.  I need to try to arrange a transport for a sick dog between Austin, Texas and somewhere in Florida (I'm in Orlando but I'll go as far as I need to)  I haven't the first clue how to really begin this.

This would be very difficult for most people.  She is fragile - one big open sore.

Someone PLEASE ... just put me out of my misery.  Just shoot me now.  I've been in tears most of the morning.  This dog is SOOOOOO SICK.  She's a little pug and she's in Austin, Texas.  I'm in Orlando, FL.  I'll post pics later when I'm home and not on office time -- but they're unbelievably difficult and graphic.  This would not be a typical transfer -- but she wants to live, she wants to play, she's trying hard.

She's a demodex dog.  4 months old and completely generalized demodex all over her body -- the head is the worst -- her entire head (including her eyelids, eyelashes and everything) are all completely infected and oozy.  The rest of her is just plain nekkid.   She's already been treated for sarcops (because the vet figured she had both) and she's also got infected ears (which I'm sure is why the demodex has been SO bad, along with the idiocy of the other owner who finally gave her up).

If I can get her I can help her.  Me.... a puppy (I AM out of my mind).  Once I get her well, then we'll make the decision of whether to keep her or place her.  Given that my husband is as bad as I am about "helping the sick ones" I'm not even gonna promise I'll place her.

Somewhere Across Rainbow Bridge there is a little buffy cocker named Muffin and a little Mostlie Sheltie named Foxy high-fouring each other.  Cos Mufferino was the 'first' Clan Kennedy demodex dog and Foxy was the one who made him want to live.  I'll need all the angel help I can get on this IF it can happen.  IF she can survive to get here.  IF IF IF it is to 'be'.

hmm...let me work a bit...see if anyone on this side knows anything. Have you asked Pug rescue  in the area if they already have a route?

Callie I am in N.W. Arkansas which is out of the way from Tx to FL but.... I would be happy to help.   My very first dog in the whole wide world was  Boliver, a pug we took in cause his owner was being sent to Viet Nam.   I have always had a soft spot for those sweet babies.   Let me know if there is anything.  You have been a rock for me when I lost Shadow I would love to help you in some way.

I heard from the Austin Pug folks that they're already in the loop...SO I have one other email out to someone...I will let you know if anything comes of it.

I'm waiting for her answer now -- she'll probably call me after work (both of us are legal secretaries).  Rita is the lady I talk about who does the epileptic dog rescue too.  Their pug rescue is extremely active, but generally they never place outside their area -- which could be a problem, except the general consensus right now is that they may want to put this dog down because no one can figure out how to deal with her and they can't find a foster home.  Well, I'm likely IT ... except I'm what ... 1500 miles away or more?

I don't know if this will help, but I am going from middle GA to north of Tampa on Sat....

I might be able to help - depending on when it is, and how far I would have to drive... I'm on a very small budget here.... but I do want to if I can!

I know she's a Pug, and I know it's hot.... but how much would a plane ticket cost? If shipping her is not an option, maybe somebody could fly to pick her up? *I* would fly and meet you in Jax, if you can't/don't wanna fly. I love flying, and it'd just be a day trip. It would almost certainly be less stressful for her to fly in the cabin than it would for her to be driven zillions of miles.

FOLKS THE PICTURE FOLLOWING IS *VERY* DISTURBING IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH (she looks like something out of a horror film)

They're looking into flying her as well -- but I'm not sure they'd think she was healthy enough TO fly.  But it might be better for her than car travel.  Not sure when the vet will see clear to release her either -- this and other questions to be answered tomorrow.

Many questions to be answered -- not sure if she's at all house-trained (that could be a deal killer -- I'm 45 minutes each way from home during the day and I only get 1/2 hr for lunch)

she's in an actual animal 'hospital' now ... and I've got a ton of questions about what tests have and have *not* been run.  If she has, as I suspect, a deep bacterial ear infection (which would account for the unbelievable amount of demodex and skin infection) they need to do a culture and sensitivity because the slight drugs they have her on just won't cut something like that.

We have to get her stablized FIRST.  I suspect the vet thinks she's a lost cause so she's not getting adquate vet treatment.  We'll see.

Marty, thanks so much.  It all depends on when they will release her and how we best figure to get her to us.  and IF we can do this.

This is a 'front' picture of her (without her everpresent cone) -- it's a horrible picture -- you wouldn't believe this IS a pug (a fawn pug, in fact).  The head is the most 'infected' but the rest of the body is covered in what the vet "is thinking is staph".

That's not likely just staph -- that's a contact allergen.  My guess is she's been kept outside (the woman who had her went on and on -- that it made her nauseus to touch her, that she had sarcops AND demodex ... which I do believe -- but the claims of vet care 'on base' are ludicrous because they don't HAVE a vet at that military outpost - they already know that at the rescue.

Callie, if it looks like this is going to happen, let me know.  I'm travelling for work some, but if I can, I'd be happy to help.  I'm flying to Fort Worth tomorrow morning, & I'll be in Houston all weekend.
