How did you come up with your dogs name???

Timber was named after the Timber wolf, my favorite animal. Lizzy was the name the shelter gave her and I thought it was cute so I kept it. I think I should have renamed her stretch though. I've never seen a dog stretch as much as she does.

Well, Bizzie (WW Keep N Bizzie) came named and it's a wonderful name for a border collie.  Her son, Dan (Le'A's Dapper Dan Man) just looked like a "Dan" and we were watching O Brother, Where Art Thou when filling out his registration papers.  The baby border, Possum, (WW Hang N Round at Le'A), just looked like a Possum.  I tried to name her something else, but it didn't stick.  The papillon, Dobby (Z-Elite House Elf at Le'A) was named after Harry Potter's Dobby...I mean, what else to name a naughty puppy with HUGE ears.  My PON, Haddie (Sinclair's It Had to Be Ewe), was named because it wasn't the best time for a puppy, but when I found out she was available and saw her picture...it had to be HER.  I just couldn't wait (turned out great because she is a wonderful dog).

    I love naming dogs!

    This is a fun thread.

Tonka - I had a list of several names and he perked up when I read Tonka. I asked him if he liked the name and it appeared he did, so it stuck.

Lady Wrongway reminds me of a tribble from Star Trek, or Gizmo from the movie Gremlins. So adorably cute!

I love beer and one of my favorite styles are the porters. My dog was then named Porter. My buddy upstairs who brews beer named his basenji, Barley. We got the beer theme going on with our dogs.

Have to look at the feeling you get the firsttime you see the dog.  One good way is to think of a movie the dog should be in and pic a character from that movie.

    Axl- named after Axl Rose
Ogre- Because...he's big and clumsy and doofy.
Pepito- Named after a character in one of Jhonen Vasquez's comic books.
Madison- My mom named her, probably just picked a name she thought was cute.
Butter- Honestly? Nothing we thought of fit and we got in the habit of calling hm "Butthead" and "Buttface" while trying to think of a name. It stuck. Terrible, I know. [8D]

I didn't personally pick Cadie's name, my family did, but we chose it because she is an Irish Setter and we like the name Katie, and Cadie is the Irish/gaelic spelling.

I gave Riley his name because it is Irish, means "warrior" (which seems to describe him) and the name just fit.

Bandit's name from the breeders was "Tuffy." Little did we know how well that actually fit....but we called him Bandit because his face is mostly copper except there's black around his eyes & on 1 ear....sort of like the masks robbers wore on the old black & white movies. His registered name "Dirty Rotten Bandit" came after we'd had time to become familiar with his special personality, lol. If you have something, he wants to steal it. If there's a mud puddle, he wants to play in it. He's spoiled rotten--if you're petting him with one hand, he cries & want both hands!

Mom's Great Dane is Daisy. She's a big clumsy thing, so we thought something cute & feminine would maybe help balance her out.

Dad just named his new English Bulldog puppy Rambo. He thought it was manly, I think it's horrible.

When I got my long awaited Papillon puppy, I had no idea what to name him.  None of the names I had come up with in the years of anticipating him fit.  So, for several days after I got him I just called him nothing or "Papillon" (which he still responds to, actually).  Then one day my dad was looking at him and making fun of his big ears and gangly little body.  He said he looked like a court jester.  Well, that stuck.  He has been named Jester ever since.  Though, his registered name is "Caillett Nobody's Fool."
