Irena Farm Fun Day Sat June 21 in NC

When: June 21 - come when convenient on Saturday, or if you need to spend the night, just let us know. We'll aim to have lunch together by noon.

Who: Open house! If you have friends who aren't on the Boards, who would also enjoy this event, come on! We are kid friendly here, too. We even can entertain the spouses. wink.gif

    Activities:

    • Potluck lunch
    • Pond walk (bring fishing gear if you like to fish)
    • Herding opportunities: mini clinic with Julie Poudrier, and sheep and duck time for experienced handlers ($35 for Julie's help, $10 for sheep/duck time). We have a round pen (thanks to Carson for his help!), two three acre training paddocks, and a field large enough to challenge Open dogs. Our sheep are lightly dog broken, not knee knockers - excellent for all levels of dogs.
    • Lots of space for walks and games. Multiple completely fenced fields available for off leash play.

Where:  We are super easy to find. We are centrally located between Durham, NC; Danville, VA; Richmond, VA; and Greensboro, NC.

Bugsy the bc says he would like to come!  I'll have to see what it looks like for me but looks like a fun event!

Yay!  Which reminds me to mention - this is not a BC only event.  It grew out of a BC Boards meetup years ago but anyone has always been welcome.

This will be our 4th annual!  Last year I think it was in August or late July, but we got a break in the weather.  Crossing our fingers that we'll get another one of those.  At any rate, it's always nice on the hill under the shade trees.

Next year we'll have to do some kind of 5 year anniversary special event!

Sounds like fun! Wish I could come, but it would be a 11-12 hour drive. Oh well - you'll have to post pics of the event after!

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh that sounds like fun.  Are we supposed to show up alone or bring a furry buddy?

This is a doggy play day!  We have secure fenced areas and also dozens of acres of safe hiking for those who are more reliable off leash.  I'm hoping we'll do a big walk down to the pond, so bring your water play toys!

I'm trying to convince dh to make the drive. Looks like it would be about 5 hours. It sounds like lots of fun though.

If your DH doesn't want to go, let me know.  We could ride together if you wanted.  Save a little on gas.

Crying - I want to go but I'd have to start drving now to make it. It sounds like a ton of fun though.

Thanks, I will let you know. I think he wants to go; he will just take some convincing. We wouldn't fit in my car with many dogs though. Salem and Cheza take most the backseat.

Do you know if there are any dog friendly hotels near Semora Becca? Or do you have some room where we could camp? If dh comes he will want to stay overnight probably.

There are three hotels in Danville VA that take dogs, including one especially nice one, the Stratford - not nice like it's fancy, but good prices and fantastic breakfast cooked to order, free with the stay.  I had our clinician stay there for the last clinic and he gave it two thumbs up!

Or, camping is fine.  It's very quiet and private and there's plenty of level grass to choose from.  Okay, it's not 100% quiet - there's sheep moving around, cattle mooing, and the ducks pretty much talk all night but I find it all very soothing.  And if it rains, or if you prefer, we have a futon suitable for two in our den.

I am going to have to come!  This sounds like a million sorts of fun!

Anyone around Charlotte or Rock Hill who might want to carpool? I don't know if anyone on the forum is near me, but barring any unexpected occurrence... Count Misha and I in!

Samantha, Lillie, Kujo, and I would like to come too!!! Heck I should have my car fixed by then. I dont do anything but sit home waiting for something to do. I could even pick up Vanilla/Piper there.

Checking mapquest to see how far.

Hey it's only 8 hours away from me.  I might be able to make that trip all alone. Can I camp too?

    • Gold Top Dog

That's NOT FAIIIIIR!!! LOL I wish I'd known... I'm going to a dog show the 28th-29th. I can't take off two weekends in a row. My adoring public would DIE, LOL. Zhi could teach the puppy a thing or two about being The Nekkid Girl.

Let us know what you're planning for next year, and you might just lure us up thereWink

There is plenty of camping room!

Awww, we will miss you Jennie!  It's okay, Zhi's kind of a snot to little dogs - the puppy will be in better shape to meet her when she's been in the world more.  Zhi's not mean to little dogs, she just snubs them.  Weird, and you should see her playing with 150 pound dogs like she's bigger than them!

Edited because I'm lame and didn't realize what you were saying - of course you'd be welcome to stay, and you could have the couch in the study if need be.  We'll figure out some way to get your puppy up here before then for sure, if you did that.  I've got friends in high places Wink
