Need help with Willow

oh willow!  what did you get into, you silly girl?!

i feel like maybe an idiot for asking this, but did you wash her bed?  i mean AFTER all this started?  i'm just thinking there might be something on it.

i'm not qualified to diagnose her by any means, but i would suggest that the vomiting could be stress related?  maybe?  what with all the stuff that's been pumped into her????  i know dogs aren't humans, but a lot of human medications list "nausea and vomiting" as a side effect.  i know that I'M very sensitive to some of these meds.

as far as the dehydration goes, if she drank all night she might be ok, but if it gets too bad, it's actually quite easy to administer subcutaneous fluids.  some vets will show you how and send you home with them.

prayers for willow!  feel better babyface!

Oh, poor Willow! Hang in there, honey! And Lori, you hang in there too. I think this is just as hard on you as it is on willow.

Feel free to try the Benadryl again, but if it didn't help before, I have a feeling that Willow may be one of the many dogs that don't respond to benadryl. I tried Blackhawk on different doses for weeks and none of it helped his allergies. Maybe you can ask your vet if they think Tavist would help.

She's probably dehydrated from the throwing up. You can offer her some Pedialyte (unflavored), or you can make or buy low sodium broth to encourage her to drink more.

I hope you can figure out what's caused this, so it can be avoided, in the future. Give Willow some kisses, for me.

Hey Lori, I hope that Willow's doing better, but I'm curious which antibiotic it is that they've put her on recently.  Maybe it's just me, but since it's something new for her, it would be the first thing I'd suspect and want to rule out.  I agree with everyone that stress can cause all kinds of other problems, such as the vomiting, but again, I'd suspect the medications.  Sassy does just fine with Benadryl and it does seem to help her, but the steroids make her pant, hyper, etc.  As for the dehydration, will she eat ice cubes?  Both my dogs think they're treats and love them.  What about salt-free chicken broth?  I really feel for you and know how worried you must be, but try to stay calm.  She's in your good hands and you're going to take good care of her [:)]

During the spring, Shadow sometimes get seasonal reactions, like he did this year. Sneezing, sinus drainage, and a little cough. A visit to the vet got some magic pills that relieved the symptoms, primarily to give his throat a rest. And he's fine, now. Whatever it was isn't benadryl.

    Thank you everyone.

The update is that Willow's been admitted since around 2pm to the 24 hour emergency hospital.  They were planning an ultrasound around 2:30 and I'm waiting for the doctor to call me with results.

I've been a wreck all day and praying soooo hard.

Oh Lori, I'm really sorry and I know I'd be just as worried as you are.  She's being taken care of though and they'll get her straightened out and she'll be home very soon.  I know this is probably impossible, but try not to worry.  You did the right thing by being so attentive and she's going to be fine.  Sending hugs to both you and Willow [:)]

Lori - if there's anything I can do for you please let me know.   I'll go say another prayer for Willow's health and for your strength.

OMG Lori...I am so sorry to read this!  I will pray for Willow too.  Did they put her on an IV?  I know sometimes once you get dehydrated, you can't keep food or water down until they get you rehydrated.  I hope it's nothing serious.  Please keep us updated!!!

    Thank to everyone.

I just heard from the doctor.  He said the ultra sound didn't show much of anything other than the bladder stones which we already knew about.  Her liver looked a little "dark" he said but her blood work was normal.  So, he said that wasn't too worrisome it could just be that's the normal color for her.

So, they didn't find anything so they decided to do some x-rays.  And, they did show two inflammed intestinal loops.  He did not see a blockage.

So, yes, they do have her on IV.  He gave me the choice of going to get her tonight.  They will give her more IV fluids and send her home with instructions and meds for nausea.  I can try a bland diet, etc.  And, see how she does.

If she's still like this in 48 hours she's going to need to go back for more x-rays to see if they can see anything new then.

The intestinal inflammation is what is causing her to pace at night, pant, etc.

Or, he said he could keep her overnight and discharge her tomorrow.

Now, DH and I are not agreeing.  I think I should go get her.  He thinks she should stay.  We live about 30 minutes from the 24 hour hospital she's at and he doesn't think I'm up for another 2am drive if anything happens.  But, don't you think she's looking for me, stressing about where she is??  I don't know what to do.

Either way, I'm going to leave to go see her in a little while.  And, I will decide when I look at her if I think she should stay there tonight.

Keep praying this subsides, thank you!!
And, thanks for all the PM's too.

    Lori

I think that's best.  Go visit her and if she's really out of it, leave her in their care.

You poor things!  *hugs and crossed fingers*
