    Great family movie recommendation

We got this thru Netflix: The Education of Little Tree.  The main character is the same age as my stepdaughter and we all really enjoyed it.  It was a wonderful story about a half Cherokee boy growing up in 1920's Smoky Mountains being raised by his grandparents and his experiences during that time of his life.  It has James Cromwell and Graham Greene (Kicking Bird from Dances with Wolves) and the same native American actress who played Kicking Bird's wife in Dances with Wolves too.

It's an interesting book. The author was apparently a KKK member and had some white supremicist views so it's really interesting the dichotomy that's present...

Maybe he felt bad for his views and wanted to somehow...express that. Who knows. Thanks for the review. Smile

The author is the little boy though right?  I'm surprised he could be a KKK member if he is half Cherokee.

well it came out that it wasn't really a memoir, it's classified as fiction at the moment I think...it's actually a really interesting thing all on it's own, that of the book and it's author...the authors real name is Asa Earl Carter...

he did I believe have an Uncle that was Cherokee...

I just read the Wiki article on it.  Geez, I hate finding out information like this - it kind of taints the story a little.  But, it was a really good movie!

hey different times, you know? I think it's just interesting, and I do wonder what the motivation of the story was...I choose to think it was a sort of apology or attempt to NOT be that guy he was. I'll think the best...because it IS a wonderful book. That stands on it's own.
