    observation/petstore

I just made an interesting observation about the amount of dogs needing homes. In that section of this forum,  there is a poster who found two small terrier crosses that seem like wonderful dogs. It was recommened that she contact the ASPCA or perhaps a rescue group. She stated that the groups she has contacted have no room for these two dogs, their own waiting lists are full.
I KNOW that those two dogs would be adopted very quickly in my hometown.
I live in Western NY (Buffalo). I only know of ONE petstore that sells puppies in this entire area. When I was looking for a small mix it took me months to find one. There are often multiple empty cages at the ASPCA.  (unfortunaly the ones available seem to be pitx and shepx).
I admit I complained how hard it was to rescue a mix dog in my area ( I didn't want a purebred).
Now that I think about how awsome that is, that there are so few dogs needed homes in my area.
And I wonder how much that has to do with the fact that there are so few pet stores selling puppies.....

    Very interesting correlation.

Many of the rescues around here are dog importers-- they ship dogs up from shelters in the south, where apparently "neuter" is a dirty word.

here too, it would be kinda hard to find a store that sells dogs here, and most of the smaller dogs at rescues are brought here from other states and countries.  there are TONS of local pits and ;pit mixes though.  shepherd mixes, and lab mixes are also fairly common.

No kidding. It's horrible. Most dogs I know aren't neutered. It's really sad.

That's how I got Grady.  He's from the South & was brought to PA from Arkansas.
