Adolescence

    Adolescence

I think we have reached that lovely adolescent phase. It seems that over night Cheza has forgotton all commands or at least is interpreting them quite differently now. Sit = bark and run circles around mom, down = the same as sit, come = grab a toy and run like mad the other direction, well you get the picture. my perfectly behaved angel puppy is now a bratty teenager, and she is only 7 months so I think we have quite a way to go with this. We are starting over with training and are on a strict nilf schedule. She is going to start puppy agility pretty soon so hopefully that will help with the excess energy a bit. She is already getting a lot of physical exercise, but I think we are lacking on the mental so we are working on that.

We went through this with Salem too, but it was either too long ago to remember or he wasn't so bad, lol. She has infused him with puppy naughtiness too. He is almost 4 and I caught him stealing a sock from the hamper yesterday and running off with a naugty look on his face. I couldn't help but laugh.

She is too cute to be angry with her. She is one of the most amusing dogs I have ever had. I woke up this morning to her standing on my chest and staring straight at me, lol. She really is a great dog even if she is a brat.

Yup that's adolescence for you - just be glad she didn't start all of this stuff at 5mo like many of my students experience. ;)

Cleo has been a handful of late as well...but seriously. Her "handful' is nothing compared to a Beagles. She now takes things to chew on...but she chews like an old lady LOL. Her favorite thing to steal are my daughters Littlest Pet Shop toys...I hate those things...they are always all over the floor. So...I used that to get her to pick em up...or I let Cleo chew it up a bit, then throw it out...mwah ha ha!

I think Cleo is about the same age as Cheza. Quite a size difference though. Big Smile

I'm taking this in stride. I expected a rough adolescence when I decided on a border collie.

The bad spots are balanced by the good I find. Like the other night Cleo was eating and my husband out of the blue says "Cleo is such a good dog...". I turned to look at him, because he WAS a bit shell shocked when I got her.

I asked "where'd that come from?"...

He says "She's in kitchen eating and standing in front of the pantry and Eli just opened the door and she just moved out of the way and didn't even look up....that's a good dog...she's so good with Eli"

It was very sweet to hear him say that...even tho Cleo puts hair all over his Xbox and chewed his headset for said same...LOL.

Hmmm ... I think Eko was born in adolescence. Stick out tongue  He is the sweetest, best tempered dog but also the BADDEST. He will steal anything that isn't nailed down. Lately he's been getting my purse, rifling through it on the living room floor, and choosing one thing to chew. He's also tried to open the front door, made a door for himself in the living room window, and will pretend he's going one place only to sneak into a forbidden zone the moment I'm not looking. The repaired window screen and frame should be here today.

He's full of mischief, and keep me on my toes, but his sweetness more than makes up for it. He's great with my daughter, and is very attached to her. Even the cats know that he's a pain the rear but doesn't want to eat them. They disdain him, and hate it when he bothers them, but they are annoyed rather than terrified.

Cheza decided that the slider door really had no need for a screen door. That one is on my honey do list.

She is a great dog though, and so lovey. I don't think she could really do anything that could get me too angry.

    All grown up Cheza.

lol I feel that way about every one of my dogs. Neiko and Lily do stuff like that too. Lily picked up my brand new sandal yesterday and walked around with it in her mouth wiggling her body in excitement. I couldn't help but laugh but of course I took it from her.

Just today Neiko took a stuffed bear that is not a toy and brought it to me wiggling his body, standing on top of me in bed all proud of himself. He was CRUSHED when I took it away and wouldn't let him have it again. I've never seen such a confused, sad face lol. I almost gave it back! He totally did not understand.

I don't know when this adolescent phase ends but Neiko and Lily are both in it full force. Neiko is 10x worse though than Lily is. Hopefully it'll end soon!
