New Englanders, I need a little help (Bevolasvegas)

DH & I are honeymooning in Vermont.  We're leaving Friday evening, & I'm in the process of packing.  It was 99 here today, so all that I really want to toss in the suitcase are shorts, tank tops, & a swimsuit.  I'm a bit worried that if I pack these things, I may regret it later.

So New Englanders, how is the weather?  What do you recommend I pack.  Are shorts & tank tops alright, or am I going to need warmer clothes?

Any suggestions, or advice would be great!

You will definitely need warmer clothes. If it were me I'd bring capris and pants, short-sleeved shirts and a sweater to layer. It is warm during the day and you could probably get away with your shorts and tank tops, but around 4pm it starts to cool down significantly. Today it was in the low 70's and I wore jeans and a tshirt. Another thing to consider is that mosquitoes are coming out like a vengence here.

I'm not in New England (farther south), but it's only been 40s and 50s here, frost warnings over night and my furnace is still going on and off.  I've never been to New England this time of year but if I were going I'd not just bring shorts and tanks.  If the weather is like it is here, right now it can be 80s or 40s, sunny, or cold rain.

I am in NH...not too far from VT.  If it were me, I'd check weather.com or similar for the local area weather during your stay.  It has been in the 50's & 60's here and windy, during the day with sun.  Downright chilly at night - heat can kick on.  If I'm hiking in the AM while it's cool (working up a slight sweat), I need short sleeves and light pants or capris - usually I start off with fleece & a tee and end up wrapping the fleece around my waist.  Pack for layers (I know this means more clothing but better safe than sorry, unless you wanna buy some new stuff while your visiting, lol).  There are plenty of locals running around in shorts and flip-flops but most of them are young people, hah-hah.  Aside from going out to dinner clothing, bring long & short sleeved t-shirts and tanks to layer, sweater/sweatshirt or two, jeans, lightweight pants, rain jacket, as well as closed and open toed shoes.

I'm further south, in PA, and I'd say here jeans or capris, and short sleeve shirts are probably good. I'd bring a few of each. I think a sweatshirt or light jacket is also necessary. Earlier today, I was wearing shorts and a tshirt, but it rained this afternoon, and the temperatures dropped a bit. Tonight I walked the dogs in pants, a tshirt, and a light jacket, and found it a bit cold at times.

A few weeks ago, when  I went to Boston, I left home wearing long pants, a tshirt, and a light sweatshirt, and that was warm enough. I got out of my car at the first gas station in Massachusetts, and I stood there freezing while pumping my gas.

You know, you could get the 10 day forecast for the area you'll be in from weather.com. I know it'll change a little bit over time, so it won't be 100% accurate, but it'll at least give you a clue as to what the weather might look like. For the earlier days in your trip, it shouldn't be too far off.

Well it was 38 this morning when i looked at the thermometer, and 51 this evening when i drove home at 6 (with a cold rain).  It's supposed to be 58 tomorrow, and in the low 70's this weekend.  I'd say it would be a few degrees colder in VT.

It looks like the low on Saturday night is going to be around 37.  I am going to freeze!  I guess that a swimsuit, & the possibility of swimming is totally out of the question.

     Thanks for the input!

I was of the opinion that you were the adventuresome type Huh?

We went to Vermont on our honeymoon too.  I'd say dress for springish during the day and at night depending you'll need something warmer.

    LMAO!!

I am adventuresome, but I'm also a cold weather wimp.  DH says that we are packing swimsuits, so I guess that we shall see.

I'm in NY so I know it's not really New England but I'd definitely recommend a sweatshirt or light jacket for night time and a raincoat. It's been raining pretty sporadically here so you never can tell what its going to be like.

Maybe DH would like to go swimming if your hotel (i'm assuming) has an indoor pool. Otherwise, I'm not so sure about that...Unless of course he's a polar bear. =)

With that in mind, I'd suggest a slightly heavier sweatshirt or jacket, and perhaps a long sleeve shirt or two.

I wouldn't swim here right now (well, I would, if the people I know with the heated pool were around), though I know some people will be this weekend, so I definitely don't think swimming is in unless it's an indoor or the pool is heated to a nice temp.

From what I hear it is supposed to be a really good week-end weather wise but  even in the summer here in Mass.I usually have to wear a sweatshirt at night. Just Monday night we were at a softball game and we all had to wear winter jackets and most of us had gloves on it was so cold.

I would definately plan on layering your clothes.

Bevo, whenever you come to New England, think layers!  We always tell people that if you don't like the weather here, just wait a minute. Big Smile
