treat balls

hmm... at the shelter we use short pieces of PCV piping, and drill some holes in the sides (small enough for only one piece of kibble to fall out at a time) seal the ends with pipe ending (I guess that's what you would call it). We add some bacon in the kibble to make it extra tasty, you could probably add anything to it - as long as its not cheese or PB, as that clogs p the wholes.

not sure if that's what your looking for - but no dog has ever destroyed them (and trust me, they've tried!) they are easy to clean, and the dogs spend hours on them

 This Kong treat ball has survived my Master of Destruction, Indie.  I stuff it with Royal Canin high fiber treats which are square and present a challenge for him to get out rather than just dropping out when he plunks or rolls it around. 

The everlasting treat balls worked great for Woobie and lasted forever.  In Indie's mouth, a minute and a half.  He is a border collie, and quickly discovered its weakness.    It's soft rubber and the treat discs slip inside a lip that holds them in tightly.  Except if your big ole' mouth can fit the whole thing in sideways and you bite down, then the treat disc pops right out for munching!  LOL!  They're not that hard, so he was able to eat the whole thing in just a few minutes.  And they're pricey!

 I've had really good luck with stuffing and freezing both Kongs and the hollow bones, getting the frozen bits from out of the center keeps them both occupied for a good long time. I've even mixed up their homemade meals and put them into sandwich bags, shaped them into a sort of log shape and frozen that and let them gnaw on the loaf for a meal/distraction.

If I'm thinking of the same purple thing that you are it is pretty similar to a Kong.  The difference is that is has little nubbies or fingers inside that make it a little harder for things to fall out.

I can't give him marrow bones because he tries to crack them open and has splintered them (these are raw)

I have frozen kongs for him but he winds up chomping on the kong and squeezing the stuff out - its a giant mess and doesn't last more than 5 minutes or so.  And these are the super sized black kongs.

My friend uses the Everlasting Treat Ball with her Golden girl, but she doesn't use the ETB things inside it -- she just puts kibble, treats or whatever else in there.  She just used it in our hotel room the other night, actually, and it kept her dog busy for quite some time with just a few pieces of her dinner in it.

 I can't find his right now, but i think it might be hard plastic, so it might be out... but wyatt loves it!!! here's a video of him playing with it...

I'll try to get a picture of one for your tomorrow, so you have a better idea of what I'm talking about. I thnk this would be one of your best bets.... they last through all our dogs - heavy chewers and throwers.....easy to clean too - just put them in the dishwasher!

I have the Kong Stuff A Ball and Shiner hasn't destroyed it yet....it's made of red Kong material, so if your dog can't destroy a red Kong, it should work, and it's harder to get stuff out of. Most recently I put apple slices in it and they never got it out, I had to take it away at the end of the day because it seemed gross to leave it in there too long. I would skip the purple thing that is similar to a kong, and the purple Busy Buddie items too, they aren't as strong and Shiner was able to get pieces off them.

 I just got all of my girls the buster cube, it's hard plastic tho so if you have hard wood floors it would be loud.  I put them outside so i dont mind the noise they make.  Akyra has it figured out somewhat, Bella does a little bit too, Sheba has no idea what to do with it & she doesn't like me 'showing' her  she hates her feet touched.

 Indie has gotten to the point that he powers through and splinters raw bones really quickly too.  This is unfortunate for Woobie because they really clean his teeth well, but Indie will take them from him.  Now I have to give them to Woobie in his crate so his teeth get clean.  The petrified hollow bones from the pet store have held up much better.  It takes a while before Indie can get any pieces off them.  He does start to chip away after a while but at that point, I take them away from him.  I don't know if there's issues with their use and tooth enamel since they're so hard, but I usually use them supervised and he's busy using his long tongue to get frozen tripe out of the center before the crunching starts.
