    Watch your dogs!!!!

People around here really should watch their dogs a bit better. There's always a dog on the loose, and you know me, always trying to catch them and get them safely home.

Today, an english setter was running around my backyard chasing birds this morning. I let my dogs on the deck and they start barking frantically. I went around back and he came up to me after a bit of whistling...Thankfully he had a pet watch tag on. The people weren't home but their emergency contact was and contacted them, and in turn they came to get their dog and thanked me for holding him. They said this is the second time he's gotten out, and they weren't home just now, so they must have let him out while no one was home in their yard. I have a feeling I'll be seeing this dog again soon.

That was my good deed for the day.

I remember once DH and I got home from somewhere and saw a Rottweiler running down our street with a piece of rope attached. Being me I get out of my car and call this dog THEN think oh what if is not friendly? It comes BOUNDING over to me, and I realize it is a juvenile dog. I play with it for a minute, then grab the rope, it does not change it's demeanor, so I put it in my backyard. I think it had a tag, I know we did get a hold of the owner who was looking for the dog, it ate through it's rope. They were so grateful to have found their dog.

Another time I was driving home from work and we had issues with the 2 chows being loose in our neighborhood. While I didn't have a specific concern, I know chows can be not very nice. So I am driving home, and there is one of the dogs walking down the street about 20 feet behind a little girl eating a sandwich that does NOT know the dog is there. The little girl turns around, sees the dog SCREAMS and takes off running with the dog behind her. I believe she dropped her sandwich which stopped the dog. I was fed up. I went home and called Animal Control. I go back outside to see where the dog is now, and I see a man driving slowly through the neighborhood in a truck. He stops and asks me about the Chows. I ask him are they his? He says "no but they have been sleeping on my porch every night for the past week." I told him I called AC and the child incident I had just witnessed. He said he did not find the dogs to be friendly. I never saw them again after that day. I assume AC got them.

I try not to worry about what a dog is breed wise. If they are loose I want to help, but I won't risk myself or my dogs. Our neighbors dog gets loose ALL THE TIME but I am not comfortable with that dog. It seems friendly but there is something wrong with it. The freaking dog climbs trees, and is OCD. I let them chase it by themselves.

Glad you could help this dog find it's way home!

I try to help all the loose dogs, but some just won't come to me. There's a pug that lives on the next street over that is always loose. When we first moved in last year it walked up to our fence and I got it in my yard. DH and I got into a huge argument saying he didnt want to waste his day going to the shelter and finding where this dog lives. He opened the gate and let it leave, I was so mad, but come to find out from the neighbor that the dog just roams around every once in awhile and always goes back home eventually. Sure enough he comes out at us on that street as we were walking our dogs one evening, the lady on her phone not paying attention. Then again a few weeks later he was roaming around our street again. I haven't seen that dog since last summer though, so either the owners wised up or that dog is no longer with them.

It really has just become annoying that so many people's dogs get loose around here. I have seen so many since we moved out...Alot of people let their dogs out in the yard and don't pay attention. I've noticed alot of that on our walks...

ETA: Most dogs don't even have a collar on let alone any tags. Thankfully these people were at least that responsible to have a collar with the petwatch tag on that dog and have it registered!! Not to mention they were very grateful that I was able to catch him and hold him until they came to get him. I just hope it doesn't happen again.
