June 8th we bring home our flat-coated retriever!

After 2 years of planning and making sure we were ready, in just under a measly three weeks we bring home our puppy!  We still don't know if we are getting a male or female (we told our breeder we had no sex-preference that we just wanted the dog she felt would fit best with us).

We also drove to the breeder's house this past Sunday to meet the puppies and also to just visit her as our breeder is just a really great person (and her husband too!  HOLY PUPPY CUTENESS is all I can say.  There are 6 in the litter, even split between males and females.  All are so healthy looking, playful, frisky, curious, and love it when you make kissy noises at them lol (I did this and a split second later I had 6 wiggly pups in my lap all vieing for my attention and I LOVE IT)!  I already had faith in this breeder but finally seeing her home, where the puppies are being brought up, how they are treated and how they appear to me just makes me so thankful that we found this breeder.  Her passion is her dogs, and she is vigilant about their health and happiness.  They are 7 weeks old currently (she sends them home at 10 weeks), she makes visitors go through a disinfection process, keeps logs of the puppies progress/emerging personalities and these go home with the new owners.  She invites neighborhood kids over for supervised visits, to get them used to children.  Plus kids and puppies make anyone's heart melt :) She has a cat who hates other cats but absolutely ADORES puppies so can get them used to furry felines....They've all had vet checkups since the day they were born and this upcoming weekend she is bringing the dogs to a small training seminar to get them tested for show quality (I forget the method she is using but it has to be done 3 days before or 3 days after they are 8-weeks).  She prefers to not test them herself though she is capable, b/c she is afraid of bias.  Normally a friend of hers, expert in this method, does this for her but due to several reasons unavailable...so she was recommended to this group who does it and they are going to make a teaching day of it!  Which in my opinion is good for socializing the dogs and getting them used to strange situations.

I'm needless to say excited!!!!  Today the significant other and I are going on a major shopping spree for the puppy!  I feel like I'm going to burst.  3 weeks in comparision to 2 years of waiting is nothing, but I swear this last stretch feels the longest ha!

So cool, and what a fantastic breeder.  I took some notes, especially how she brings neighborhood kids in.  Must emulate that myself some day as I do not have kids of my own, lol.  Are you hoping to show your babe in conformation?

Have fun on that shopping spree!

I'm trying to get my scanner at home to work - to scan in the pics the breeder has sent us (the oldest I have is them at 5 weeks though).

10 more days and then I promise to utterly spam the community with flat coated retriever puppy cuteness!!!!

Is it pathetic that I keep looking at the basket of goodies (food, treats, toys, collar/leash, etc) that I put together?! Wink
