So what did gas cost when you got your driver's License ??

Bob and I are on our way home, we have been at a dog show in Jackson Tn all weekend. This am we filled up.... 80 gals and gulp....$292.60

I could use a big old antidepressant about now since we have 5 hours to drive home and we will have to top off once we get there.  Anyone else remember what they paid for gas the year they got their driver's license??? I was 18 ( yes I was spoiled and had brothers who drove me everywhere ) so in 1975 I remember paying .96 a gallon the hubs a bit older  so it would have been 1958,  thinks he paid .19 cents a gallon  !!!

One of my 5 grandkids just gave me a new t shirt saying he will be in the class of 2020.... I can not begin to guess what it will be when he turns 18 in 12 years!

lol, I don't remember.  I got my license in 2002 I think.  First time I had a car was when I got married in late 2006.  DH had a car he took over payments from, from his dad, which is what I now drive/share.  I've never really had a car of my own or my choosing.  I used to pay my friends for rides but I don't remember what the price was.  I think I paid them more, just for the favors.

I got my license when I turned 16 in 1998..I *think* gas was just hitting $1, maybe a bit over ...cost me $12-$15 to fill up my Hyundai Elantra.

that has been almost 20 yrs ago.... maybe $0.70 or 0.80? something like that. i could fill up my pickup for less than $20.

In the midst of a gas price war it was $0.21 per gallon

Oh man, lets date ourselves......but, twenty nine a gallon.  And that was in the days where no one offered self service and they washed the windshield AND checked under the hood each and every time.....they usually gave stuff away too, like drinking glasses or all sorts of goodies.  That WAS something good about the good old days............

I don't really remember, but you could ask for 50 cents worth and get a decent amount!

1998 and it was about $1 I think.

1989 - around $1!  Man, the good old days

Okay so this "joke" is a bit rude.... but you know what happens now a days when you go in and ask for $5.00 worth of gas???

I got my license in June 1985 when I was 18.  Gas was about $1.25/gallon and everyone used to say they couldn't imagine what gas would cost in 2000, figuring it was going to be what we now pay.  But after 1985 and up until 3 years ago, gas actually was less than $1.25.

I can't remember the price per gallon, but I had a little Nash Metropolitan that racked up a ton of miles and it used to cost me about $8.00 a month for gas.  Not only that, but these were full service gas stations that checked your tires, all the fluids, washed your windows AND were usually giving away drinking glasses or dishes or some other goodies. The dishes I had when I got married were freebies from the local gas station. Smile

Well, I got my license right as Katrina hit, so prices were in major flux.
