Assistant Update - Day #3 at the end...(mrstjohnson)

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh my...she seems like a real winner.  I can't imagine barging in w/o knocking on the *closed* door.  Geesh.  We all have cubicles where I work and I still knock on the side before I just go invade someone's space.  The unicorn thing....eh, lots of people collect stuff, and it seems like work cubes become the place to display it (atleast at some places I've worked) so a few things on the desk and maybe a picture, or calander inside her cube wall wouldn't bug me....but....having so much stuff it looks like a childs bedroom....that's too much.

However, I think the "I'm a cat person" is grounds for dismissal, lol

when I tried to introduce myself, her response was, "wears my cube".

I would have said - outside in the parking lot... But I am a big smart ass...

Good luck with her! Hope all goes well... I'll be looking for an update :)

Well, day two is here and so far she bas brought in three more boxes of stuff.  I asked her what all the stuff was and she just said some personal things.  As long as it doesn't interfere with her work environment, that's fine but I just don't know where she is putting it.

I am going to have her do some actual data stuff this afternoon and see if she can do the work part of it all.  Hopefully, she will be great with the data.  I can live with personal weirdness if you are good at what you do.  Well, see!

    • Gold Top Dog

LOL@ plaid pants...you all golf on your lunchbreak right? Wink

Good luck today...is she at least a WINGS fan? Maybe all the stuff in the boxes is like RW memorabilia?

    • Gold Top Dog

Good grief, I feel for you.  Ask her if she has any of the stuff she put on her list amongst the boxes of things she's hauled in - it would save the company some money and make her look good at the same time.

How big is her space?  I have a small office and the only things of my own that even fit are two small pics of my son, my little UPS truck (size of a Matchbox car and gift from our old UPS driver), a little desk clock, and a pencil holder.  There were already pictures in here, so the only thing of mine on the wall is a calendar.

I am still shaking my head about the unicorns...

We had an admin asst here that loved trolls.  The girl had trolls everywhere (she was in her late 20s) - it was beyond tacky.

LOL I can't say much about collections at work, since I wore most of mine daily (Mr T FOOL!) But you know...I didn't work in a professional office, but a laid back bookstore lol.

Nope, she "doesn't do sports".  Stick out tongue  My reply was, didn't ask if you played, but are you a wings fan.

Shari - her cube is about 8 x 10 it's pretty good size and the area she's in is good size as well.  She did inform me this morning that she can't change the ink on the printer, lick envelopes or stamps, or handle any type of styrofoam.  She just added about 5 - 6 things to her list, one of which is an electric hot water kettle.  I told her that one isn't going to happen, but she is more than welcome to bring one in herself for her own personal use.  Don't think she like that answer either.

lol, it sounds ilike we will have some pretty funny stories from you!!  She does sound really weird though lol!

But I have to support her for the styrofoam!   I can't touch it or be NEAR it!  It gives me the heebie jeebies!

    • Gold Top Dog

oh wow....she is coming down with "work allergies" I see...LOL.

You're kidding me.  It would never occur to me to ask that my EMPLOYER provide something like that.  This woman seems a bit nuts.  I can only wonder at what she said at the interview that got them to hire her.

    • Gold Top Dog

Lisa!  You have GOT to be making this up!

Who works for who here?  I can't imagine giving my boss a list of stuff I needed - doesn't HR handle that, or an office administrator?

Anyone want to take the over/under on how long this woman stays employed as Lisa's assistant?  I'm giving it one week - yep, she'll be gone by the 28th.  I think if she isn't found murdered it will be a small miracle. (Nothing against you Lisa...just sayin' - she sounds so annoying you might just reflexively beat her to death with your stapler at some point)

    Been there, fired that!

Edited to add --------------------->  It is VERY important to document everything, if she can't change toner, handle stamps etc she may be building an accomodation case.

Also waiting for more over here--I hope you're keeping the amusing bits first and foremost in your head and not going crazy yet!

Oh, and I wear plaid pants...I have about three pairs...Wink  But I don't think I'd wear them to an office environment unless it was dress-down Friday or something.  How much is this woman going to get paid to be needy and incompetent?  Or have you found out that she's competent yet today?

Hey!  Too bad you're not still in Milwaukee.  I'd work for you--granted, I haven't worked in an office since 2005, but I've got the mojo.  Stick out tongue

The whole thing is, the office here is new and there are only two other people here, me and my boss.  HR etc. is back in WI, so I guess that's why she is coming to me.  I just don't get it.  When I am new at a place, I spend a good week feeling out the culture, etc.  I don't understand people that just walk in and think they own the joint.

We also hired another new person that will be starting next week.  When I told her, she was less than thrilled.  To be fair, I will probably give her about a month...letting the betting begin!

I don't get it either and I'd be concerned about someone being that comfortable this early on. I'm betting she doesn't make it, and I'd guess about 3-4 weeks before she's gone.
