    Know Anything About COMFORTIS

My vet is now carrying a new prescription chewable for fleas called COMFORTIS.  I have not been able to really find out much about it, but I think it only works on fleas and not on ticks.  I haven't seen anything on this forum about it and wondered what anyone has heard about it.  One thing, it is made by Lilly and NOT Fort Dodge.  WE don't have a problem with ticks, haven't seen one in seveal years, so if this pans out, it could be something I would be intrested in.  But first I would want to know about the ingredients and how dangerous they are.  My vet isn't carrying ProMeris, and I hope he doesn't.  That has nasty ingredients in it.

A few weeks ago I treated my dogs with Comfortis for the first time.  You are correct, it does not control ticks.  My vet, who is also a 20+ year friend  treated his dogs and he is a very careful person.  He usually never promotes or offers new products until there has been time on the market for bad side effects to show up.  He feels it is a good, safe product,  I have not seen any adverse reaction from my three dogs.  I have not seen any fleas either and I have been looking.  I hate Frontline and hope this does turn out to be a good alternative.  If I notice or hear of any adverse reactions I will post them.

Thanks for th info.  I am not very happy with Frontline either.  But I am also terrified of using new stuff.  On Oct. 16, 2003 I lost my just turned 4 year old golden retriever, Hunter, to autoimmune hemolytic anemia and liver damange brought on by the fairly new on the market 6 month heartworm preventative injection, ProHeart6  Ten months after his death the FDA had them pull it and so far they have not been able to bring it back.

have read warnings about the new Fort Dodge flea/tick stuff, ProMeris and know I will not use it. But so far, nothing negative about the Comfortis.

I saw it in my vets office the other day... but I still don't understand how it can prevent fleas from the inside...

I haven't read too much into it - I'm using ADV and have been pretty happy with it - always used it, so far so good!
