    Quick---Pumpkin for "the squirts"

we had to go out yesterday, and when we returned we found a horrible sight Sad  Bandit had diahrrea in his crate....all over his crate to be exact...and him......and my  carpet....and ....everything...

Hubby had him out a few times throught the night, he's stilll active and willing to drink.
problem being we have to take my mom back to the airport today, if I can't leave him I won't, but I really need to go to the airport.  She lives 2000 km away and this is the first time I've seen her since last summer.

Is there anything that should work within a few hours to help solidify things a bit?  I heard pumpkin works quickly, but I have never had to use it.

(And for those wondering, I am pretty positive he's had a reaction to the seditive they gave him to do his x ray)

Yes, get canned pumpkin (not the pie kind). I buy Libby's which can be found in the baking section of the grocery store. I wouldn't exactly call it fast acting though but it does work. Just add a tablespoon or 2 to the dogs food or you can feed it to him by itself.

I've heard pumpkin works.  I never tried it on Coke b/c typically when I give him something new other than dry kibble he GETS the squirts.  I have used imodium on the past and also fasted the dog so there's nothing to poo out.

    Yep it works!

for something like that I'd probably use Kaopectate -- dunno how big Bandit is, but a teaspoon is usually appropriate unless he's super small (like under 6 pounds).

Pumpkin can be iffy to be honest  because it so depends on how much you give and the size of the dog.  It's like metamucil (it IS fiber, which is why it 'works';) -- but give a little and it solidifies and give 'more' and it's a laxative.

A bit of pepto works too.

I would not feed him for the rest of the day. Let his stomach settle itsef.

we didn't give him any more food after we came home last night, and have yet to give him anything today.  It's slowing down, when he goes out there isn't much left in him to poop out.  But it's still watery.  Gave him a tablespoon of pumpkin, which he loved! Smile

He's drinking plenty of water, I keep refreshing his water dish, so it's always got nice cold water in it.

I'll re evaluate him before we go...we'll be gone for about 4-5 hours (1.5 there and back, with good byes and such on top of that)  If i don't feel that I can leave him then I'll stay home

I've used Immodium with good results.
