    WE ARE MOVING!!!! (mrstjohnson)

Yeah!  We finally found a place.  The job I was trying to get went into a hiring freeze so we decided to move back to Detroit anyway with my current job.  Originally we were going to wait until June since we have a wedding in Milwaukee at the end of May, but when we went home we were able to get our place immediately and move in at the beginning of May, just in time for Riley's birthday!  Plus, DH is now more than geeked to be able to watch the Wings in the playoffs in Detroit.

We ended up getting a condo.  We looked at a lot of houses (they are a million deals out there), but finally decided on a condo.  DH hates the whole exterior maintenance thing, and I am sick of shoveling snow, so at least for the next 5 years or so this will work, plus it was a great deal.  What amazes me is how quickly you can spend the money you saved for 8 years.  In two seconds it was gone...poof.  Kind of deflating but very exciting.  I will post pics once we get in since now they are pretty boring because they are of empty rooms.  The only thing we have to do is take down the wall paper in the kitchen and even if we don't do that right away it's no big deal.

Charlie won't have a fenced yard whcih sucks, but there is a great trail behind the complex that will be perfect.

For those Michiganders on the board, we are moving to Sterling Heights, on the east side.  Whoo Yoo!  Now I have to start packing Ick!

Congrats! Hope you guys are super happy with the new place! Yes Beer

    Congrats Lisa!!!!

I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED condo living!!!!!!!  Unfortunately, we only bought a one bedroom, so after my daughter was born we moved into our house.  I'm sure you, hubby and the "babies" will be very happy.

I don't have anything good to say about Michigan, but I also love not having to do lawn care or exterior maintenance!

I don't have anything good to say about Michigan,

LOL.  Yeah, no one can understand why we want to go back, if it wasn't for my family we would be moving far far out west where it never snows!  I learned one thing while we were gone though, never underestimate the value of a very wonderful family and a great home town.  We started missing home after 2 months here...that was 3 1/2 years ago.

I like my family but I like my sanity more Wink Maybe if we lived in a nicer part of town I'd feel more attached to the place... I want us to move before we have kids, so I don't get spoiled with the grandma's spoiling them and babysitting for free, you know?  Then I might actually get attached...

Can't wait to see pics of the condo...

so I don't get spoiled with the grandma's spoiling them and babysitting for free, you know?

Yeah - I can't wait to be spoiled with the babysitting.  DH and I have only been out to dinner by ourselves once here since we frankly don't trust anyone really to watch Riley besides our best friends and our family.  It is such a feeling of freedom when we are home and can go out and my family is more than willing to jump to watch her.  I know that will change once the novelty of us being home wears off, so I am going to milk it while I can Wink

We feel that was too about WI.  We live in an OK area, which we really can't stand.  Maybe we would like it better if we lived in a different area.

Congratulations!! Too bad we won't be neighbors after all but I am glad you are happy for your move. Hey we come out the Sterling Heights way every now and again too. Perhaps we will still meet.

When I first moved to the States I thought I hated it but it turns out it was just the city I was in.  Since we moved back to the mid-west, if you consider MN midwest, I really, really like it here.

I think that cities have personalities and there are good fits and bad fits for people living in them.  Having family there can be a pro, or a con, for anyone!

Good luck on the move (probably my least favourite thing to do).  Packing vibes going your way!

Liesje, that's partly because GR gets a lot of lake effect snow!

Sterling Heights - I moved from there at age 4 in 1971 out to the country, which sucked.  We used to live on Hensley Street.  When I was young, it was a treat to make the trip to Sveden House on Old VanDyke Ave for the smorgasboard (that was before everyone had all-you-can-eat buffets).  It had the bulk candy barrels, trinkets, and the wishing fountain out in the lobby.  What a treat it was to get bulk Atomic Fireballs and toss a penny into the fountain.  And when I was a teen, we all drove to Lakeside Mall to hang out - it was new back in the early 80s.

Now that I've given away my age, I'll wrap up by saying that I hope your move goes well.

Yep - I spent many a Friday/Saturday night hanging out at the mall to see what's going on later that night....and I do remember Sveden House!

And....our mall-rats in recovery are exposed!

    • Gold Top Dog

Yeah...that was back when a group of teens could hang out at the mall and it was just hanging out - people didn't freak out and think you were gang members.

Don't be to sure. I have lived in CA on and off for 20 years. I was in Michigan for 2. We were there for the REALLY BIG ICE STORM in 2001. I thought it was awsome! I also loved being able to sit out in the garage with the door open durring a summer storm and watching the lightining strike. We don't get lightening like that here. And it does snow. Just not in the Central Valley. It snows in the mountians. We have to drive approx 2 hours to get to it. (oh, and we don't have fireflys which sucks)

But I'm really gald your happy, and that you like your new house/condo.
