    So is this "trashy"?

On a Mom's board I belong to, I posted that I'm having a fingerpainting playgroup at my house if it is nice weather.  I figured we could do it in the front yard and just have the babies in diapers so they wouldn't get their clothes all messy from the fingerpaints.  Like duh right?

So another Mom posts in my thread: "I just have to say, NO DIAPERS IN THE FRONT YARD!  We talked about our neighbors for YEARS because they let their baby run around in a diaper in the front yard.  TOO TRASHY!  At least put them in a onesie!"

OK, is it just me, but I find this ridiculous.  Who would put a baby in a onesie to FINGERPAINT?  I'd much rather be called "lazy" for wanting to save a piece of laundry but do people really think this way?  Sheesh.  Sorry but I thought that her comment was pretty elitist and snobby.

I don't think its trashy.  But I do think that if kiddies are outdoors they need SOME covering - either to stop them catching sun or getting cold.  Unless it's a warm day and you could whip up some shade for them....?

I don't have kids and don't plan on it anytime soon, but I have seen many babies run around everywhere in just a diaper. What's the difference whether its the house, front yard, back yard, etc. Especially with something messy like that, I definately don't think that would be classified as "trashy"

Well that depends.  If you are also allowing them to play on the car up on the blocks in the front yard that I would agree.Big Smile

We live in Texas...it gets about oh 100something most days after June 1. Both my kids have been out front in their diapers to play in the sprinkler, or bubbles, or hang out.

But.....when we go to Wal Mart they wore onsies...because we're classy like that. Wink

I just have to chime in...I'm a Grandma and there is absolutely nothing trashy about a baby in diapers.  I find that comical...especially in and around your own home.  Honestly, a baby in just diapers wouldn't bother me in a grocery store...other than Mom should think that these stores can be cold.

    It's a BABY...sheesh!

    Gina - LOL!!

I can see putting them in something to protect them from the sun or cold, as others said, but I hardly think it'd be "trashy" if you don't.

"Trashy" is the photo of me as a baby sitting in the backyard wearing nothing but a diaper *and holding a beer bottle* ;)

Hmm...now, perhaps if the diaper is filthy, hanging off their bums, and attracting flies...than ya, trashy, as in put it in the trash and get a new one?  But no, I can't understand why anyone would judge a baby.  Maybe if you put on your Daisy Dukes, tease up your bangs and tuck you shirt into your bra.....

I think that talking about the neighbor's kid for years is trashy.

A ONESIE! That will look so raggedy once they get paint or DROOL on it.

I say let them paint naked and hose 'em off afterwards! (I seen those nakid statues in fancy foreign gardens so I know nakid can be classy.)

Good idea: Have them use chocolate pudding for their fingerpainting that way you won't have to worry if they accidentally eat any. LOL

Of course, if they are naked aka diaperless and smeared with chocolate pudding it might look......nah I wouldn't worry about it.

Nothing trashy about babies only wearing diapers.  Me thinks your neighbors are too uppity.  Smile

My boys were known to strip down and play in the front yard, too.  Oh, did I mention we lived at a Lutheran church camp when they were little?  LOL

hahaha!!  I was lucky, we lived on the corner of a little neighbourhood lol.  My mother used to yell at me not to go in the sprinkler because i would get my clothing wet, so i comprised lol

I really think that any mother who things their baby in a diaper is trashy is a little hrm, i can't even think of the right word for it!

At a store - a onesie; in a yard or even a park - diaper!  I never even HAD a swim suit until I was 4-ish, didn't wear shirts in the summer either.  We were in our undies and diaps all the time.  Why dress them if they're going to get all messy anyway?
