The poop situation

What a strange thing to talk about - but here goes.

I've had the aussies on Innova Evo for several weeks now. I'm very happy with it (after the initial gas attacks). Neiko is holding his weight steady on 2 cups per day and Lily only needs 1 cup per day. Needless to say, this food is lasting a long time. Much longer than any other brand I've tried. Despite the high cost, I believe that I'm saving in the long run. Their fur is great too - nice and silky/shiny. The only problem is that their poo has a distinct greenish tint to it. It's not brown at all - but a forest green color. That seems like a problem to me, what do you think? There's not very much of it though - which is good.

When mine were eating EVO they all have dark green poo as well. They did very well on it otherwise.

I've been doing some reading and apparently that can indicate that there is too much iron in the food. I wonder if that will cause long term problems.

I sent an email to the company - we'll see if they respond.

I'd be interested to hear what you learn. Mine are in Innova Adult and have considered Evo. I do believe we are saving in the long run, as they don't need as much. And, I don't mind paying extra as its the most important thing we can do for them...feed a high quality food. Innova isn't the only high quality food, its just my choice; and I can get it at my local feed store.

Luke has been on both types (been on red meat for a while now, though, since he started to get itchy on the chicken) and I've never noticed this with him. His poo is totally "normal" colored.

FWIW, he only gets 2 cups per day -- he's on a "diet," though. Losing VERY slowly on the 2 cups, but I don't dare feed him less. He's down to 90.5 pounds as of last Tuesday. I'm aiming for about two more pounds gone. He's fine by normal dog standards, but I want him extra trim because of all the jumping he has to do for agility.

By comparison, I used to feed him SIX CUPS a day of Purina Pro Plan. And it all came right back out of him.

Yeah, that's the thing. I used to feed Neiko 4+ cups per day of Canidae and TOTW and he had big poops, like most of the food was just being wasted. I don't have that issue with EVO at all. It's just green. Maybe I should try the red meat. I think I'm feeding them the chicken/turkey one right now.
