I did it! I fixed the toilet!

So I've never really had to fix anythingj in my house before since I've been a renter up until last june. Well....my toilet has been leaking. My solution to this point was to turn the water off and only turn it on when i neeeded it but I figured this was not a long term solution. Sooooooo I took the thing apart, went to home depot, bought a book and fixed it! And it isn't leaking lol. I fix people all the time, but never have fixed things hee hee. Anyway, I was proud that I did it without help (my sister's husband was going to drive over and do it). Men, pft, who needs a husband when you can get a home-depot how to book? BTW did anyone else know that those bleach tabs to keep the water clean eat away at your flapper? You learn something new everyday.

Hahaha....congrats!  I have had to fix more things since owning a home than I ever even knew could go wrong!  I have my own tool set with power tools and all that I have collected over the last year and a half.  If I waited on my husband, it would never get done.

Home Depot is my friend.  I never buy the book.  I usually find any poor soul that I can there and ask them a million questions.  They are almost always more than willing to help me out in every way they can.  Isn't it a great feeling to know you can be self sufficient!

Good job! When I bought my house, my friends at work bought me a how to fix things book :) I love that thing. I haven't had to fix a toilet yet though. That kind of scares me. Electrical work scares me too.

I'll tell you what's fun. Fixing the toilet leaking out of the bottom. That's because of a leak in what is called the "johnny seal," a wax ring that seals between the base of the commode and the drain pipe called a closet flange. The worst part is taking the commode off and putting up with the smell long enough to plug the pipe.

Congrats!!!  I'll get a few "fix-it" jobs lined up for you in case you're ever in my neighborhood. Smile Thanks for the heads up about the  tabs.  I've been using those since Max doesn't drink out of the toilet but I'm thinking I won't be buying any more of them.

Congrats!!!  When I was newly divorced, poor and had a house to maintain, I had to replace the entire assembly inside the toilet.  Well, the main nut and bolt that holds it in was horribly rusted and I had to buy a hacksaw to get it off.  The job took 3 days, 4 trips to Home Depot and loads of googling and asking the guys at the store for help and advice but I did it!  I'd broken down in tears and thrown things around the room several times, but I never felt more proud when I was finished!

Yeah, who needs stinky men when you have a brain and some dogs???  LOL!

Woohoo!  I'm so proud of you!!  Doesn't it feel GREAT to fix something?  When I do, I just kinda stand back & say to myself with a big old grin on my face "dang, I'm good."  You ROCK!
