    Peaches

Shes licking the fur right off her legs. Can cats be OCD about grooming themselves?

    • Gold Top Dog

I do not know much about cats but I have found this for you : http://www.vin.com/VINDBPub/SearchPB/Proceedings/PR05000/PR00026.htm

I hope it helps and you find a solution to help Peaches overcome this.

very much so - we call it simply 'over-grooming'.

What should i do about over-grooming? Is it a form of anxiety?

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, you will find that a lot of cats overgroom when highly stressed - anxiety. Has anything in the cats environment changed?

If not... I would get him over to a vet to make sure that everything is ok with him and that there is not an underlying problem causing the overgrooming.

You'll find that once the stressor is eliminated, the hair will grow back.

My cat Luke does the same. He has his front legs bold and sometimes he gets his belly bold too. Poor thing gets very stressed!! What I do is to try to eliminate the stressor or give him more distracctions around. So he forgets he was unhappy and the hair grows back. Sometimes I give him Rescue Remedy... because he gets aggresive.

I totally forgot about the rescue remedy! There is also a Feline appeasing hormone out there too - I had some when I had a litter of very nasty ferals.... it really helped. I'd have to look and find the bottle to see what it was called. It's made by the same company that does the DAP stuff
