How many forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

One to change the light bulb and to post that the lightbulb has been changed.

Fourteen to share similar experiences of changing lightbulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

Seven to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

Seven more to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

Five to flame the spell checkers.

    Three to correct spelling/grammar flames.

Six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...

Another six to condemn those six as stupid.

Fifteen to claim experience in the lighting industry and give the correct spelling.

Nineteen to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb (or light bulb) forum.

Eleven to defend the posting to the group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this group.

Thirty six to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty.

Seven to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

Four to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.

Three to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

Thirteen to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

Five to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

Four to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

Thirteen to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs."

Three to tell a funny story about their cat and a light bulb.

    AND

One group lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now with something unrelated they found at snopes.com and start it all over again!

Didn't say anything about what kind of light bulb.  But I'm sure we can really get a good number of posts going.  OF course there is also the  one about the different dog breeds changing light bulbs.

I grow tired of listening to so called light bulb experts that do not understand my own unique lightbulb experience and judge me harshly because I refuse to utilize their own ideas about what kind of light bulbs, how much pressure to apply when screwing in the lightbulb and the general life and well being of the light bulb once it is screwed in.And for those who insist that it is improper to ever screw in a lightbulb and that at no time should any pressure be placed on the lightbulb well to them I say..................

Hey, I know forum members are mentioned in the title, but is this post about the lightbulbs on the right forum?  I know there is a forum rule about being off-topic but what about a rule about being off-forum.

    • Gold Top Dog

Don't think there is one about being off forum. But at least it's in the right section since it's not dog related. Smile Lol..

As a person who's job can include changing light bulbs, sometimes I just go home and sit in the dark. The darkest house on the street is the electrician's. After changing light bulbs all day, who wants to change another?

As for energy savings, changing to the "watt-savers" which are self-ballast flourescents, they are not truly watt savers. It's called the Ideal Transformer Law. Power (in) = Power (out). As for heat, their will not be that much difference between heat radiation. An incandescent bulb (the kind you normally have in your regular light) puts out heat because their is a filament that glows when it has a current through it. The glow is from the filament being hot.

With a ballasted light, even a self-ballast lamp, there will still be heat, from the flourescent tube and from the ballast, which which will contain a small transformer and a resistor and a capacitor. The resistor, capacitor and the load end of the transformer act as a filter and destabilizor, as the 60 hz of our power system will cause a flourescent to pulse. I'm here to tell you that flourescent tubes get mighty warm and ballasts can get hot. So the heat and energy savings won't be that much but at least you get to spend even more money to provide light.

    Yeah ...

    ETA:

You can't dim a standard ballast like you can dim a regular light bulb.  But they do make flourescent dimming systems, sort of. You have to have a dimmable ballast and an electronic dimmer switch that matches it and a multi-vapor lamp. Even mo' money.

Its NON-DOG RELATED and the word "NON" means the opposite and I don't think lightbulb is the opposite of dog.  But the cat comment seemed to be on-forum.

Well it's not the EXACT  opposite but it's still an opposite of a dog. One is alive and breathing the other is not.. Hence an opposite..

Well you see now with changing lightbulbs you have to first make sure the light is switched OFF. You see I had a friend who was chaing his light bulb in his living room and he reached in there to put in the new bulb and it schocked him so bad his arm fell off. So then he had to use his other hand and then it shocked that arm into falling off. So you see you have to be careful.

If dog is on-forum then non-dog has to be off-forum.  Because the opposite of on is off.
