    How difficult would this be?

There is a pregnant yellow lab at a local shelter that gasses, and if she is not rescued by tomorrow afternoon, she and her unborn pups will be gassed.  I can not stand the thought, but I'm nervous as heck at the thought of taking in a pregnant mama.  I have no idea where we'd keep her or the puppies, and I don't know the first thing about having puppies around.  We could probably set up something in our garage, which has never been used as a garage, but rather as a play space for the kids.

    What should I do????

I have a friend up near you (she's in Drexel) and I just emailed you.  She couldn't take her but she would surely help YOU and help mentor you.  She's an awesome lady and does tons of rescue (and tons of pet therapy).  I've known her for years and I know she'd help mentor you thru this.

Thanks....I am still trying to see if there are any rescues who can take her in also.  I'm just not sure I can handle the task at hand!!!  I want to save her though, so I am diligently working on this!

What a beautiful dog.  I hope you can help her.  I am too far away or I would volunteer too.

Be aware that a rescue may opt to spay her and place her. Not all are going to want to whelp her out. I admire what you want to do tho and I wish you the best with it. Whelping is a complicated thing and not for the faint of heart...but puppies are very sweet. Also understand the responsibility of PLACING those puppies which may number more than 8 in PROPER homes and all that entails.

    any update on this???

after many many emails, someone somewhere went and got her.  I think she is in Durham, NC now.  I do know that she started labor when they were there to get her, so they waited to get her till today.  All her paperwork was done, so she was safe.  I am waiting for an update myself.  There was also a pregnant mix breed who had her babies that same day and was finished birthing them, so she was moved.  She had 8 adorable babies.

I will see if there are any more updates on the lab though...I hope she is ok.

Mama dog has been named Daisy, which I think fits her...and she gave birth to TEN puppies Thursday night into Friday.  She is actually only about 40 minutes from here, and we are considering adopting one of her babies when they are ready.  The only problem is, they will be ready to go home 1 week before we are heading out on a 1 week long trip and I would not know what to do with the puppy. Taking it along would not work.  She said we could wait to get the puppy till we get back, but that would make it 10 weeks old....I guess if she doesn't mind, and we can visit (which she said we could) then it might not be bad.  I'd love to get to pick out a puppy in the early stages...this sounds like a wonderful opportunity!
