We took Spirit out to the farm to get her introduced to herding for the first time this past Saturday. It was pretty funny watching her hop around the pen with this BIG SHEEP! (relative!)
I thought she did pretty good with respect to just introducing her to sheep and seeing what kind of interest she had. I didn't really know what to expect. Spirit has a nervous side to her. Certain sounds really put her off. The trainer used a shaker can to get the dogs cut off if they were circling behind her. I didn't realize she had it. Early on she used it on Spirit and she high tailed it away.. in fact she squeezed through the fence and got into the next pen! I started to think "oh, I guess herding is out".... but....
The trainer brought in her border collie to give Spirit some pointers and show her "it's alright", and things got back on track. I put some video together if anyone is interested in seeing what a corgi get her first herding lesson can be like. :)
