A Moosie Morning

The dogs woke me up early today....

Go to my blog for all the pictures and the story! http://inktrails.blogs.com

Oh, no!  Is there anyone you can go to with your suspicions?  They are so cute.  Are they old enough to live on their own yet?

I could go to Fish & Game if I knew it happened, and could tell them who. But all I heard were gun shots. If I heard a bunch of ravens having a party on a pile of offal, then I could pinpoint who it was, IF it happened, etc. So I'll keep my ears open for that. It's highly unlikely that someone who poached a moose would let themselves get caught, though.

I don't know if these guys will make it or not. I will have to ask a moose biologist.

Jeano, that's a very cool series of photos but a VERY sad reason for them.  I hope you can get some answers about these babies.

I agree with this, what a sad reason for them to be alone.

Great pics BTW, Ole, Sofia and Jeano's adventures are always great Wink

Those poor moose calves!  Hopefully justice is found.

Very cool pics!  I would be scared to death of being that close to a moose, even if I were inside!

I hope that momma moose was exploring somewhere just outside of eyesight.

Well, I just updated my blog and thought I'd let you guys know:

I found fireworks remnants right out in the road, so that's what the gun-like noises were. Usually fireworks don't fool me, but these did! So Mama Moose is still MIA, the calves are definitely orphans, everyone send them good vibes (and all orphan moosies) to help them survive.

You notice I didn't go outside to take the pictures, Amanda? LOL  I could have petted the calves, I'm sure, but at that point there *could* have been a Mama moose just waiting to stomp me. No way was I going to risk that!

My thoughts are with the little meese.

So many good vibes for the little moose.

The Boyfiend and I were talking about it this morning, and he said there was a very slight chance that Mama was somewhere way far out of sight, but it is unlikely. I do hope she was there. Unfortunately little guys like that don't do well on their own. :-(  Of course "little" is  rather relative. They are little compared to grown-up moose, but they are still the size of large ponies! I hope I get to see them again. I'll keep an eye out for them because they will stay in the neighborhood for a little while, most likely.

Of course they are way past nursing, it's not that. It's that Mama helps them find food and teaches them how to be Big Moose.
