    OPRAH - PUPPY MILLS

This Friday 4/3 Oprah will discuss puppy mills - finally!!!  If anyone can bring focus to this horrible industry, she can. Check your local listings for show times.

Oh, my mom is gonna have a hernia!  To think!  After all this time I wasn't making it all up!  If Oprah says it, its true you know!

Not for anything, but where does Oprah think her beloved black cocker came from? Someone bought that dog for her years ago from a pet shop, and look at all the wonderful years she had with/gave that dog.

This show is airing on the FOURTH of April...3rd is the pregnant man according to her webpage. The place she got her Goldens from was under some scrutiny as I recall. Maybe she'll also discuss that.

Yeah, I mean... kudos to her if she can admit she might have done something dumb by not doing her homework well enough. So many people do things like buy pet store puppies just because nobody ever suggested to them it might be a bad idea - if she can help educate people, more power to her!

I agree.  Both of my dogs came from a BYB, but I don't go around promoting them.  I learned from my mistake, not that I regret getting my dogs, just the means.  I love them just as much as if they had come from a great breeder or a rescue and I will treat them the same as if I did.  Would I do it again?  No.  Do I feel like a hypocrite letting people know the problem with buying from a BYB?  No.  If anything I feel more obligated to do so.

I just hope that it is a honest report and not just another AR hack job.  After all not all commercial breeders are puppy mills and not all dogs that come from pet shops are sick.

I have the same mind set as Timsdat.

I will be watching just to see if she will admit to her own poor judgment with the purchasing of the lab puppies, and to see how off-base her info might be on breeders in general.

This is the show many of us have been talking about for years. I have been on forums about pet shops and puppy mills where conversations went on and on about who could help spread the word about horrible puppy mills...and Oprah has always been the one that was brought up. Many many of us wrote to Oprah to ask for this show,,,I know I did.

We have to be thrilled this show is on...she will reach more people about this issue than any other as far as I am concerned.

As far as her dogs are concerned.... I don't think we need to knock her or second guess her for it.   IF she didn't know better when she got the dogs...she does now.  Thats what counts.

Its no different than many of us.

    Thank you Oprah!

I didn't know she was doing a show on puppy mills, I am defiantly going to watch...I think that will defiantly open some people's eyes which is really cool. People listen to Oprah so maybe this will do some damage in the pet store industry.

I remember being pretty steamed when she did a show on her "rare white golden retrievers"....ughIck!....I didn't know she got her cocker from a petstore, I heard it came from a breeder a 6months old and was kept as a showing prospect, but didn't measure up or something, maybe I just heard wrong, or maybe that was the other one (she has 2, Sophie & Solomon).

Her Sophie just recently passed awaySad.

I'm SOOOOO glad Oprah is doing this show and will be sure to watch. I think there are a lot of people out there who really have no clue and this will open some eyes, hopefully!

Does this mean everyone in the audience will have a free puppy under their seat! LOL!

Lisa Ling (who did the "investigation" ) has some serious investigative skills, so viewers who have never heard of a puppy mill should be getting an eyeful.

I don't watch the show but I'll be recording it Friday. Thanks for posting.

     from the article:

The show features special correspondent Lisa Ling investigating puppy mills, which Ling calls "horrific" and "haunting."

Winfrey says the show is "for anybody anywhere who loves a dog, has ever loved a dog, or just cares about their basic right to humane treatment."

While Sophie was not a product of a puppy mill, and Winfrey's three current dogs were adopted from breeders, Winfrey says in the future she would look to adopt from an animal shelter.

"I would never, ever adopt another pet now without going to a shelter to do it. I am a changed woman after seeing this show," she says.

That's fantastic!  It sounds like it will be a good show.  I'm not an Oprah watcher, but I'm setting my DVR tonight to record it on Friday.
