Rate your dog's personality-UPDATED INFO POSTED

The Animal Personality Institute is currently conducting a new study to develop the Dog Personality Questionnaire (DPQ), a questionnaire-based tool for assessing personality in dogs. It can be found at [linkhttp://survey.psy.utexas.edu/API/dpq.php]http://survey.psy.utexas.edu/API/dpq.php[/link]
We need at least 1,800 dog owners to complete the online DPQ so that we can improve and further develop it. We appreciate each and every dog owner who takes the time to complete the questionnaire. It is currently available online and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. When dog owners fill out the online DPQ, they will immediately receive information about how their dog has scored on each of the personality traits assessed in the DPQ, and they will be entered into a drawing for a free gift certificate as a token of our appreciation.    If you would like rate your dog on the DPQ or to learn more about this new questionnaire, please visit the DPQ homepage http://survey.psy.utexas.edu/API/dpq.php) where you can find links to the DPQ Information page and the DPQ Updates page. To learn more about the Animal Personality Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, go to [linkhttp://www.animalpersonality.org.]www.animalpersonality.org.[/link]   If you know any other dog owners who might be interested in filling out the DPQ, please forward this message on to them.

I took the quiz.  Was way too long and I almost quit halfway through.  A lot of the answers were very similar so the whole thing felt very repetitive.  I felt that the percentages given at the end aren't all that accurate for my dog.  All in all, I will never go through it again.  A little too boring.

I didn't like the questions because the study didn't differentiate between indoors and outdoors.  My dog lives with a cat very peacefully.  Yet outdoors a cat needs and deserves to be chased.  Also there is a huge difference between aggression and prey drive.

    Just my two cents.

Not very accurate, in my optinion. I have never seen Sam behave fearfully except when some idiots yelled at him and tried to slap him...his fearfullness should not be 23 percent [&:]

some of it is quite accurate, but i take exception to the "agression towards people".  his gereral people agression is ZERO and his situational aggression is maybe 10%.

i also disagree with the fear in handling bit.  he doesn't love to have his nails clipped, but i would hardly call that fearful.  the only thing he's afraid of is when my husband and i fight with each other.

in all, that survey felt like one of those tests you take when you apply for a job at a place like Target- the repetetive questions are insulting, as if i might answer differently if the same question is phrased a different way because i'm too stupid to see it for what it is....[:@]

It seems fairly accurate for Beauty, although I agree that the questions were very repetitive and boring.  It was interesting to see the results, though. I think a big part of the reason this came out the way it did is the fact that she was not socialized or trained as a puppy - I'm not sure how much of it is her natural personality.

I didn't like the questions like "if your dog ____ when being handled/restrained/etc" because I wasn't sure how to answer. He's fine when I restrained or handle him, but it'd be a different story if it were someone on the street. Also, when they asked "your dog is friendly toward other dogs", well, that too depends on circumstance. He's fine at the dog run when everybody's off leash, but today an off-leash dog ran up to him while he was leashed and he flipped out. Then there's "dog is excitable when visitors arrive". Well, if he doesn't know them, he doesn't really care, but if it's someone he likes (my mother in law, for example), he's ecstatic. Anyway, here are the results:

    Fearfulness: 22%
    Fear of people: 10%
    Non-social fear: 23%
    Fear/submission towards other dogs: 3%
    Fear during handling: 53%

    Aggression towards people: 8%
