    Should I feel bad?

I've been looking for another dog for awhile now.  I finally found what seemed like the perfect dog for my family and for CoCo on petfinder from a rescue located near me.  After meeting all the rescue's criterias, and was told my application was the "best" for the dog, the rescue and I exchanged numerous emails and I was given a number to call.  After chatting with the lady for awhile, she said that it is up to me whether or not to bring said dog home.  Then she dropped the bomb shell: the dog was located across the country.

I wasnt thinking and told her I was still excited to adopt him...however, after giving it some considerable thought, I don't think I feel comfortable making such a huge committment when I can't even meet the dog!

Now I've been feeling really guilty...should I???  Do you guys blame me??

Nope and she should understand. Adopting a dog sight unseen is not usually something people do.

Agreed, especially since you have another dog who may or may not get along with the newcomer. Your responsibility is to your existing family first!

No, you should not feel bad.  I adopted Kenya without meeting her four months before I was able to pick her up, BUT she was the first dog, she already had years of training, and she had always been with the person I adopted her from so there was no guesswork involved.  With Coke, we took Kenya to meet him.  Actually, the rescue would not completely approve an adoption until each family member and dog had come for a meeting.  We were planning to adopt a different dog and had basically committed to him.  When we took Kenya to meet him it was a disaster.  He barked nonstop for 45 minutes and she was trying to run away from him and hide.  Thank goodness we agreed on a meeting first!

Nope. I have adopted 2 sight unseen, but it's an individual decision. IMO, you should not adopt a dog if you have serious reservations for any reasons. The worst thing would be if you regretted your decision or had to rehome the dog yet again.
