 Wow, just wow - that had to be a pretty bad mauling to cause the need for complete castration - why the heck didn't the peke's owner control/remove their dog sooner?!?!  Yet another reason why aggressive dogs shouldn't be allowed in dog parks...regardless of size.

If the peke likes certain dogs, why not set playdates up with those dogs alone rather than risking the health of others?  I hope the peke's owner did the responsible thing and helped pay vet expenses for the poor husky. 

I don't know if the Pekingese's owner paid or not, I'll find out today... But I doubt it, it's an old lady, I don't think she can actually get that much money in such a short notice...

And as I said, it is a stud dog, so the damage is much bigger than only the castration's cost... 

I am SO not a dogpark fan.  Why in heaven's name did she NOT get her dog under control after the first 'bite'.  WHY did they allow the bigger dog back 'near' her after she tore into him once?

It's like people absolutely lose all sense and sensibility at a dog park.  All the human "Oh, I don't want to make a scene" things kick in and horrible things can happen. 

My dogs are loose in OUR yard.  But no way do I like taking my dogs to a place where other people don't have control of THEIR dogs. 

Why was an unaltered stud dog in a park anyways? Yea, I know the peke should have been there either - but there are rules about unaltered dogs in parks, and clearly, if he was a stud, he's old enough to be altered. Why didn't the owner of the husky remove the dog when he was being attacked? Why wait for something small to escalate to something so major?

I go to the park - Casey loves it. But if there's a dog I am uneasy about, we'll go to another yard or leave all together. I'm not afraid to tell people to get their aggressive dogs out of the park.

I think you and the other dog park folks, since you know each other, should get together and tell this old lady that her dog is no longer welcome at the park. Tell her that she needs to set up playdates with the dogs her dog gets along with, but that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES can that pekingese come back!

This could be done kindly, by having the folks who know her hand her their phone numbers and addresses so they can get together, etc. But I wouldn't let that dog back in the park.

 I too, don't understand why the owner of the husky let his dog get bit up to that extent. If a dog bit one of my dogs, we'd be out of there SO FAST and we'd have a discussion with the owner of the biting dog, too.

 I don't go to the dog park, either, because there are so many dog flus and dog colds going around that Sofie and Ole even get sick just sniffing where the sled dogs went by the house....I can't imagine what they'd be exposed to in town in the dog park. There are way more dogs here, and therefore, way more illnesses for dogs, than I have ever seen anywhere else.

There aren't usually rules at dog parks regarding intact dogs.  That would be very unfair to people who have purebred dogs they might be planning to breed. There are rules about not bringing dogs in heat into the park which IMO is a no-brainer, but I guess there are people stupid enough to do that.

The thing is that it is not a dog park. It is a park where dogs are allowed and can be unleashed in the morning and in the evening.

Why didn't she move the dog after the first bite? Well, she did, but then the Husky's owner wanted to tie him up and leave, and as he did it, the peke ran into him again from the behind... Her owner (the old lady) was trying to leave, but she uses a flexy with her dog which unfortunately gave her enough space to do what she did.

I thought I would see the Husky's owner today and maybe get some info on how the dog is doing, but they weren't there... Somebody said he saw them with their other dogs, but they left quickly...

I really hope he's ok, he's such a nice dog...

That's so awful about that poor Husky. I'm taking Eko to the dog park in the mornings, M-F, but there's a good group at that time that doesn't stand for aggressive or badly behaved dogs. (I just found out other dog park users are calling them the Nine o'clock b*****s! Darn straight, those ladies are awesome and they won't sit quietly by).

I wish there were more recourses for users of dog parks and parks open to dogs. How can we get aggressive dogs out? 

Man, I would have lost it if that had been my dog. The owner must feel terrible about not being able to protect her dog. The peke owner should be told to keep her dog AWAY--can the dog be reported to someone??? so that if the peke attacks a less tolerant dog athe dog aggression is on record somewhere???

The "dog parks" around me and the doggie playgroups do NOT allow intact dogs. It doesn't matter what their temperment is like, or how much training they've had, they are NOT welcome. The reason is "intact dogs are more likely to be dog aggressive."

I guess it's different everywhere.  our dog park prohibits females in heat but other than that intact dogs are allowed.  It just says that the males need to be watched more carefully...
