I agree, web forms are definitely the "biggie". The page needs to be enabled to accept applications, deposits/paypal, litter notifications, other various inquiries. The forms speed up the process and after I installed a web form, it really cut down on the buyers who only wanted to waste my time and allowed me better insight to each indivigual buyer. I also use HTML quite often and could not operate my site without it. I generate all my pedigrees with an HTML program, and also use it for links back to advertising sites, which make my site easier to find. You also have to consider disc space - I have 20MB of space and use about half of that. But I need that space for the amount of pics/graphics I use. Also figure into the equation how easily the site can be updated ... I host and design my own site and end up changing pics about 1-2x weekly when we have a litter on the ground. The site I used before was a major hassle in this regard, and finally, I switched to Tripod. It's a free site but crap, I couldn't be happier with it's ease of use & features.
