I suppose they did a fecal flotation when you took him to the vet. Did they happen to mention the possibility of Coccidia ? It is a single cell parasite that infect the intestine and when it multiplies, attacks the intestine lining and produces bloody diahreea and vomiting. The parasite contaminates the soil and "waits" to be ingested by a new host. To my knowledge, it does not show in blood tests.
Did you take Neo to any new place where he could have ingested some soil or laid down on some contaminated soil and then licked himself ?
Even if they did a fecal at the vet, what can happen is that if the number of coccidia oocysts is low at the time of the fecal, they can be missed. Therefore, repeated tests are sometimes needed to detect this problem. A lot of dogs are coccidia carriers but they only have flare ups occasionnally; it seems that stress, among other things, can play a role in triggering a flare up (I am thinking about your family visit).
I would bring him back to the vet for a fecal and if this is negative, ask if you can bring other samples over the next few days (at my vet, you do not need to bring the dog every time).
If he is found positive for Coccidia, they will give him medicine to slow down the reproduction of the parasite, put him on a very bland diet and tell you to watch for dehydration.
I hope this helps. Poor Neo, I hope you find out what is wrong soon.
