How long do you walk your dog for?

Tootsie, my corgi is good for about 45 min. then shes tired, but put her in a field of sheep and she goes all day.

I rarely "walk" my dogs, although we make a point of getting into town at least once a week so that they can walk with distractions, people, dogs, etc.

My dogs have free acess to the fenced yard and run and play a LOT through out the day.  Typically, every other day I put drag lines on them and take them out in two sets of three for a romp around the 4 acres, which includes a ton of ball fetching.  Now, only one in each set is gonna be the one who almost always gets the ball, but all three run like the wind to and from where the ball has landed.  This keeps ME from having to walk quite so much up and down the HUGE hills.  We're usually out for an hour or so, but I make them come in when the tongues start dragging the ground.

Edited to add: my dog is a 1.5 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever.

Depends.  Chase gets walked more on workdays when he's left alone from 8:00 until 5:00.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays he's at doggy daycare.  A typical Mon/Wed/Fri consists of about 2-2.5 hours:

6:00 AM - 30-40 minutes (either him trotting alongside me as I jog, or a 15 minute on-leash walk and a 15 minute retrieving session at the school yard)

12:00 - 45-60 minutes with the dog walker.  She walks him on-leash to a local ;park.  So about 30 minutes of leash walking and 15-30 minutes of off-leash ball chasing.

5:30 - 45-60 minutes with me at the off-leash park.  He plays with other dogs when there's someone to play with.  He'll also do lots of running back and forth as I walk the trails.

On weekends, we usually walk only once.  We'll drive to a ;park that's about 20 minutes away for a longer hike and swim, usually an hour to an hour and a half.  Sometimes I might also walk him on-leash for 20-30 mins in the evening if it's really beautiful out and I feel like it.

I don't "walk" my dogs per se, although they get excercised everyday.  Dasher gets the ball thrown in the yard a couple of times a day in our fenced in yard.  He also spends short periods of  time in the yard as I work from home most days so I can watch him.  We also practice agility and go to agility class once a week.  When I do go to the office Dasher comes with.  Lille is our 12 year old lab, she gets play time in the yard but thats about all she can handle, espeically as the weather gets warm.  I used to run with my Dal, Reese, and he could run for hours.  He was the best running partner. [:D] While Dasher has tons of energy I don't think he is a long distance runner, he is more of a sprinter. [;)]  Today I took him to the barn and he got to play with the barn doggies.  He is totally wiped out, passed out on my bed as I type! (Wish I was in bed, instead I am trying to finish a paper for school [:'(] as you can see I am procrastinating on I-dog!)

My two dogs are good after an hour and a half of walking.  Sometimes they get two walks a day.  Zoe hates the rain, so some days she doesn't get a walk at all.

Talus always goes for a run at the airforce base in the morning.
He goes with my husband for about an hour.
In the afternoon, he likes a nice walk around the neighborhood for about 45 minutes.
And we usually go for a midnight walk for about an hour.

I walk Bubblegum about 1/2 hr a day.  We also take her to the shopping center, a couple of blocks away, and let her fun from one end to the other in the back.  DH stands on one end and I on the other. Its a small strip center, maybe around 12 stores and we do it when we are pretty sure no one will drive back there.    She runs back and forth around 5 times, so that pretty well tires her out, then she has to walk home!

Gosh, so true it depends on the dog and you and other limitations.  Mine is a border collie mix, and he could walk, run whatever for hours under any condition except if is thundering than we do not go out at all, he will not set a paw out if he sees lightning.  He gets walked three times hour and a half morning and evening and in the afternoons about an hour winter or 30 mins spring and summer...Houston's heat and humidity is just crazy.

It would be depends on the sizes

Tiny Dogs - maybe a block up & down the block

Small Dogs - One or two, depends how much she/he can handle

Medium Dogs - A few blocks not very much

Large Dogs - Many blocks as you want

X Large Dogs - you can go for miles ;)

But all dogs be sure to return home to get fresh clean water after they been out walking etc :-)
