Put on some pounds...

    Put on some pounds...

Despite *looking* leaner, Kenya has put on about six pounds since I got her in July and finally tips the scale at 60.  Methinks that she is thinner, but has more muscle tone.  We have a split-level house that's three levels so the dogs go up and down stairs every few minutes.

    Kenya when I got her

My vote is muscle! LOVE the pictures! Ugh if I had the space & time I would totally have a GSD... for now I'll settle for the tiny German dog... haha

I think that she looks great. I'm trying to do this to Lily. When I got her she had no muscle tone at all. I'm just now starting to see some muscles around her hind legs. She has a long way to go though still.

Btw, muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 pound is 1 pound no matter what makes up that pound. The difference is that if you put 1 lb of fat in to a box, it will take up a good portion of the box. However, if you put 1 lb of muscle in the same box, it'll take up less space. This is why 2 people can weigh 150 lbs and one person looks nice and lean and the other looks chubby. They still weigh the same but one of them has more muscle and less fat than the other.

I think that's what people mean by "muscle weighs more than fat" meaning that a cup of muscle is more dense than a cup of fat.

If you take the same SIZE of muscle verses fat then "muscle weighs more than fat."

I think with Kenya being very active it totally must be muscle

That would explain why she *looks* skinnier (and is rib-y), but weighs more.  The breeder wanted her to lose a few pounds when I got her.  Well, she gained, but I think she looks nice.  I want to bulk her up a tad bit more, muscle not fat.  She's only eating about 2.5 cups now but when we start training harder I will also feed more.

See how this dog is so well toned, yet you can count his ribs on the bottom of his chest

I think Kenya looks great in every single pic you post. The first pic, however is gorgeous!! And talking about her weight, I'm not an expert, but she looks perfect to me Smile

    I think Kenya looks great.

FWIW, Ben has gained 7lbs since last June, but still looks as lean as ever.  Since we started agility a week after his annual vet check when he was weighed, I subscribe to the gaining-muscle theory.  I've seen lots of pics of Kenya being active, so I think the same is likely true for her.
