    India has been found!!!!!!!!

I don't have all the details but I just got a call from a close friend.

India the lost pharaoh hound has been found!

Apparently a gentleman took her into his home, he didn't read newspapers or watch the television much so he was unaware that she was being searched for.  Earlier this evening Linda, India's human mom, got a phone call from this gentleman who simply said "I've got your dog."  One of the local hound club reps went over to his place and confirmed that it was, indeed, a female pharaoh hound.

I'm pretty much overcome right now, so happy that she's going to be reunited with her family after a week of being on her own, lost and scared.

To all of you that are involved in rescue groups, or have gone out and searched for or put up "lost" fliers, or have made phone calls, faxes, sent emails to help find a lost dog:  I offer up to you a debt of gratitude.  You have no idea how much your hard work effects us, and you do it from the heart.

Much love and kisses from the pharaoh hound community to all of you.

People can be so ridiculous sometimes! Did that fellow even TRY to find her home?

Regardless, I'm glad she's safe and sound, and better that head-in-the-sand gentleman take her in and take care of her than have something unfortunate happen as she's running around! Really glad this one had a happy ending. [:)]

To be honest, I don't know.  I think he was just a kind soul that took her in and provided for her as best as he could.

Here is the thread from another board:

The man said he's had India in his yard since Thursday and only thought to check the newspaper today.
Since Linda just arrived home completely exhausted from the day to take care of her dogs, when this man called she asked one one of the ladies Linda M, who has been out searching with Linda, to go and ID the dog this man claimed to have in his yard as Linda M lives two minutes away from him.
Linda M, who I beleive is the president of the Birmingham KC, phoned to say it IS India. She's a bit skittish but Linda M will pick her up and will meet up with Linda T to get India home.
I'm waiting to hear further news but told Linda to just call me in the morning as she really just needs to get India home and collapse with a good nights rest.
Please cross-post, once India is home, to whomever you contacted so everyone is aware that she has been found.
THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP BRINGING THIS GIRL BACK. Make sure to hug your hounds
    !

I'm so glad that THIS Indy turned out to be a lucky one!!

Thank you so much for letting us know!

And the god of Pharoah Hounds has brought fortune again. How serendipitous that she could wind up at a place where the guy simply cared for her until he knew better? And that someone involved in the search could be there almost as fast as the phrase "I think I found your dog" could be said.

I hope Miss India enjoyed her travels.

Hurray!  Now both Linda's can get some sleep!

I hope that Linda T is recovering quickly from her accident injuries.  Sleep will really help.  [:)]

Ummm, I don't have time to read the paper, and I'm rarely awake for the news........I rely on DH to let me know about anything uber important that's going on in the world or my little corner of it.  I catch bits and pieces of the news online, but..............

I think that it's wonderful that this man took care of India, even if he wasn't exactly on top of the situation.  The only difference with me is that I would have been actively looking for an owner.  But you sure can't kick the guy for being good to her.

    2 prayers answered here -

    1 - she was found

2 - she was found by someone that took care of her and has taken the steps to reunite her with her family

maybe he could have done more to find out about her but not everyone recoginizes (sp) a pure breed - what ever the breed - much less a "show dog"  -- many in the country areas are mostly interested in a dog if it can hunt & for that they do not need to be pure breed, lots of mixes make good hunters

I agree.  Worse things could have befallen this dog.  At least the person was kind.
    Glad she is going home!

That is wonderful to hear!  At least she was safe and being taken care of...I still check Vivi's blog occassionally and hope the same for her.

    Yay!!!!!!!!!!

Like Xerxes said in another thread, people who don't know better always say his dog is too skinny.  Maybe the man thought the dog was too skinny and thus assumed it was a stray that had been left to starve?  Most people are not familiar with purebred dogs, let alone Pharaoh Hounds.  Heck, I never knew they existed until a year or so ago!  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he cared for her as best he could and returned her as soon as he heard the news.

I agree. But still, good for him for being kind hearted. Next time he finds a dog I bet he'll be a little more pro-active! :)

Liesje, I hadn't thought of that. It's certainly a possibility!

Here's the post from this morning.  I'm super happy that she's home now.  I wish all the "lost dog" stories could end this way.  I also wish that the owners had all these people that were willing to go the distance for them.

Spoke to Linda this morning. India came home last night, thanks to Linda M who picked her up.
The elderly man who had her said his dog was barking out in the kennel, when he went out to see what the fuss was about he saw, what he thought was a deer laying at the tree line. He took her in gave her food and water, even took her for a walk the other day!
Linda M said she was skittish and wouldn't let her get near but the man came out, snapped a leash on her and once on leash India was calm as could be.
Linda said India slept in this morning. Her pads are torn up pretty bad and she's not putting her front leg down so she'll take her in for a much needed vet check and bath.
As they say, it takes a village. Collectively, between the PH community, the Vivi volunteers and others who helped spread the word as well as the kind local folks that pitched in, we made it happen!
    Thanks again for everyone's help

I was so elated to see the subject line "India is home" on the PH board this morning.  Finally the nightmare is over for her and her family.  And how fortunate that the elderly man found her - that was certainly a better scenario than the idea of her hungry and in danger.  At least she's been safe for the past few days.  :)  I can't fathom the pain her family was in, and the relief and gratitude they must now feel.  Many prayers have been answered!

    What a happy day!
