can anyone tell me what kind of dog this is?

I love the look of this dog! I saw it on a site I can no longer find. Does anybody know what kind of dog this is? I really want one of them.

    Thanks

Looks to me like a Plott mix, maybe plott and lab but mostly plott... ?

What is Plott? I was thinking more like a mastiff lab cross. I think it is a purebread dog though from what I remember reading on the site.

Plott hounds are big game hunters like bear and mountain lion.  From what I know they are very hard working and often end up in shelters because they are not ment for household pets.  Here are a few links so you can compare photos.

Could be a plott hound lab cross? It just looks a little bit bigger than either of those dogs?

Plott hounds and labs can both get very big, the lab was a guess.  To me it looks a lot like a Plott only its ears a a little smaller and eyes closer together.  Not sure.  If its a full breed like you say then I dont have a better guess than that, but good luck, there are lots of great doggies needing homes.

Glasscow, This may be one of those Black Mouth Curs I was talking about. They do come in four dif colors I believe. [linkhttp://www.blackmouthcur.com]www.blackmouthcur.com[/link] This site has a few pictured. However, these particular ones are known as Southern Black Mouth Curs because of their lite color. There are darker ones including brindled. They are hounds.

I would bet you money, that dog is a Tosa Inu. They are a Japanese fighting breed and NOT for the novice owner. Most have a heavier head but I have seen them look exactly like this dog as well. It appears to be a bitch which would account for the smaller overall structure.

Here is a pic of a dog Tosa Inu...

I was going to say Plott initially until I resized the picture and realized the size of the dog.  I agree, it may very well be a Tosa. [linkhttp://www.rarebreed.com/breeds/tosa.html]http://www.rarebreed.com/breeds/tosa.html[/link]

The dog in this pic is built very much the same, although it is from the Netherlands.

As usual with the big bully mastiff breeds once the breeding outpaces the ethics the dogs tend to get scrawny lookin!

I watched  a program on Japan on PBS and they covered dog fighting when they discussed the Yakuza organized crime circut there. Apparently it is a big time "hobby' for many big bosses to raise Tosa and bet on the fights. They showed a fight and it was pretty horrible. But the dogs were totally docile with their handlers..quite amazing to see.

The Yakuza's dogs were massive things...but most of those I see at UKC events or on the web in the USA are quite lanky with smaller heads and muzzles. As is typical of the Japanese they know to keep the best for themselves! ;)

Hmm I didnt realize others had their own fighting breed...[:(]
But I guess I just chose not to think of it... so mean.... all of these beautiful breeds being used in such a way.

It looks a little like a Fila Brasileiro to me...

Thank you rwbeagle it is a Tosa Inu!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are no longer used as fighting dogs. The good thing about Tossa Inus is that they would never fight till the death. Great Dogs.
