Humping

    Humping

Simba keeps humping when out of the house. Its not a total problem as he does not hump people (which is good) He did however yesterday run up to a Jack Russel male might I add and proceed to jump ontp his back and well you can imagine the rest.

He did this another 3 times while we were out and because my recall is less than impressive it got rather embarrassing. I dont want to get him fixed yet he is so young and I want him to sire pups.

Plus I am hoping to show him soon so he needs to be fully intact.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sarah--That's a dominance thing not a sex thing.  Hopefully, someone will come along with advice on how to curb it.  I couldn't give advice on this since I've never had a pup, male or dog that does it.  [:)]

I've heard using a squirt bottle helps.  Just a squirt once or twice usually does the trick (or so I've seen).

Willow has the right of it.. it's a dominance thing not something sex related. I don't have a whole lot of experience with male dogs either. [:(]

My mother had this problem The trainer told her (now this is gonna sound funny BUT it worked) Because he was showing is is the alpha, to mount him. You don't have to hump him, just mount him. He said this would also help with him to learn he is NOT going to be the dominate one in the house. I thought it sounded crazy, but as I said it really did work.

Angel, I don't mean to be rude, but isn't this the dog with soooo many issues?  I wouldn't take advice like that...or much else...from this trainer.

    RE: Humping

Ok, I don't want to get too graphic here. We have a lab/pit female mix and she is a humping
girl. LOVES to hump. Pillows, my leg -depending how fast I can get it away-anything. Then she'll
curl up and lick herself.  And she's 2  1/2.  What's kind of strange and makes me think I should
check with the vet and make she she was spayed right, is that I swear she has a little bit of fluid?
that comes out of her. I'm really sorry if this is getting too graphic. When I'm laying on my side in
bed she climbs on me and trys to hump. If I get down on the floor for anything, she tries to hump.
And she gets this kind of glassy look in her eyes.Kind of like it is sexual, know what I mean? We've
always had female dogs and never anything like this. When a male dog tries to hump her I feel like,
"go for it, now you know what it feels like".Is this serious? Is it the pit in her? Or should I be more
strict with her when she starts humping?

Humping IS a dominance display, and if you think about it realistically, she's not getting any sexual pleasure from this.  Yes, you need to firmly tell her No hump and redirect her to another activity.  If she is having any sort of vaginal discharge, she needs to be vetted.

Glenda, no this is my Step moms dog, not my mom's. Sorry I should have put that. Both have the same breed.
