    What does "JQP" mean?

What does "JQP" mean? And any other online lingo you can think of....I'm pretty online language illiterate!

(This might need to be moved to technical questions)

Someone started a thread awhile back and everyone listed as many acronyms (sp?) as they could think of....not sure where that thread is now though....

I need to find it. The one that I can not figure out is ROLF or the same thing with the letter "T" in it (where ever it goes) I don't know as I type this because I don't know what it means.

No wonder we can't spell the text messaging world is confirming it.

Are you sure it's not ROFL?  I think that one is "rolling on the floor, laughing." Smile

rotfl -- rolling on the floor laughin

rofl - rolling on floor laughing

rotflmao - rolling on the floor lauging my .... derriere .... off

    btw -- by the way

    brb -- be right back

    lol = laughing out loud

Most of these were begun BEFORE texting back in the infant days of chat programs.

TRUE STORY:  my husband and I MET online ... he was in the UK (United Kingdom -- Buckinghamshire specifically) and I was in Flooor-da.  One lovely January day not long after we'd sort of been 'introduced' by a mutual online buddy (who was trying to get David some info about travel in the US) I was on an old (no longer there) chat program with David and suddenly he said:

"brb -- I've got to get my jumper on"

O ...... K ..... (oh my gosh -- what HAVE I got myself into NOW??  ... If he asks ME what *I* am wearing I AM OUTA HERE!!!)  You US ladies all know where MY thots were -- here a jumper is something a girl wears.  Not a man.

He came back and realized I was pretty ... guarded and said something like "Back!   -- couldn't find my old blue jumper"

SILENCE AGAIN on my part.  Oh bro-THER!!!

He said something like "You there?"

"yeah ... I was just ... a bit take aback by your ... clothing choice"

well, it took us a few minutes to unravel THAT one.

Unbeknownst to ME "Jumper" in the UK is not a girl's sleeveless dress that you wear OVER a blouse!!  Nope .. in the UK "jumper" is SWEATER!!!

    Ok -- innocent. phew

Sometimes we get a tad carried away with our shorthand -- so don't forget to laugh, ok??

    IMO In My Opinion

    IMHO In My Humble Opinion

I concur...nobody uses correct and proper English anymore, especially online.   I try not to use the abbreviations unless I'm in a really big hurry or a quick chat, but you do need to know them to understand what the heck everyone else is trying to say.  :o)
