Cleaning a kong?

    Cleaning a kong?

No matter what, I can still see little dried bits and pieces of food stuck all the way on the bottom of the kong.  I tried q-tips, soaking in hot water, etc.

How do you clean your dog's kongs?

    TIA!

Between uses I rinse them out/spray them with very hot water and as much pressure as I can get, and I also run 'em through the dishwasher weekly or so.

To be honest, they are not always 100% clean, but my dog gets his kongs outside and he will roll them around in the dirt and then lick most of it off, so I am pretty sure he is not super concerned about any small amounts of dirt I miss while washing.

I soak it in hot water with a little dish soap.  Maybe it would work if you soaked it and then took it outside and used the hose with a spray nozzle on it.  Get some good water pressure to clean it out.  Might get a little wet, but I think it would work.

I had the same problem so I bought one of those brushes to clean baby bottles - works pefectly!!!!![:D]

I just run Max's Kong through the dishwasher on the top rack with the big hole down. It always does the trick for me.

Ditto to all the above.  I use super hot water immediately after each use.  And I put it through the dishwasher (large hole down) once or twice a week.

It is funny you mention that. I just read on another site about a woman who's dog had pieces of the Kong stuck on her dog's mouth. It turns out, the company said that certain brands of peanut butter can degrade the Kong and that is what happens. I'm partial to the Tug a Jug myself (the fact I invented it might have something to do with that - LOL!) but it is really easy to clean.  In fact, it requires no cleaning. You can also put a little or a lot of treats in it easily.  Check it out - google search "Tug a Jug". Another toy the company makes, Twist and Treat is even better than the Kong because it completely adjust to accomodate different size treats and difficulty levels.

I clean Mollys kong with hot water and a tooth brush.

cookiemonstes - I really wanted to buy Molly a Tug-a-jug as she just love getting treats out of things but she also likes to eat the rope so I couldn`t get her one. I`ve had to throw all her rope toys away. I got tired of pulling the rope out of her mouth before she swallowed it. Like I said I really think it is a neat treat toy but the rope sorry I can go there. Good luck with your toy.

Totally understood. Their safety comes first. One person told me she took the rope out on purpose and put a racquet ball in as a "stopper" instead of the rope. I see you have the Twist and Treat. I ordered it from them (I don't work for them, I am a teacher). I love it. Each of my dog's has one and I alternate giving them the Tug a Jug one morning and the Twist and Treat the next as I leave the house. It has become our routine and has helped with my youngest dog's separation anxiety a lot. Thanks for the positive feedback.
