Clogged anal gland symptoms?

Scooting mostly.  If the dog licks at his or her butt or you see swelling, a vet visit would definitely be in order.  Our Pepper is prone to anal gland abscesses (mostly recently last month) and each time requires antibiotics and weekly visits to the vet until the infection clears.  In addition to checking her butt weekly, I will bring Pepper to the clinic or groomer to have the glands expelled every 4-6 weeks as suggested by the vet.  A real pain, but way better than surgery, which is the next step if the problem can't be managed conservatively. 

My dog is one and a half year old right now. When she was spayed late last Jan. They suppressed her anal glands when she was under. A while ago she started having cramp attacks or something going on that made her cry just in the morning. The rest of the day she was fine. It did not last long about a minute or two but I got concerned so I took her to the vet. My vet said that as you say clogged anal glands could cause her to have the systems that she had. After her anal glands were suppressed she has been ok so far. No more crying, cramps what ever. They thought that they suppressed her glands the last of Oct but they thought wrong as when they looked it up nope they didn`t it so it was last Jan when she got spayed. So it had been a year.

Now the main symptoms that I know of is that your pup or dog will scooting their butt on the floor which could mean in my mind either anal glands or worms. Molly did not scoot her butt or lick her butt and there was no swelling when I took her into the vet this last time just the pain and it ended up being her anal glands needing suppressed.

Is it painful, at all? If his anal glands were swollen enough that you could see them, from the outside, it would be painful, and you would be able to feel them, fairly easily. It sounds like a situation that would be better safe than sorry.... I'd have the vet take a look at it.
